Trying to find a car you used to own.

I used to own an old E34 BMW 540i touring, loved it but had to sell it 3 years ago because I couldn't afford to run it.

I saw it up for sale on eBay in the summer and contacted the seller to ask about buying it back. I didn't receive a reply and the auction was ended early, presumably because the car sold privately.

I've since looked online and can see that the car isn't taxed or insured so I'm thinking that either it has been laid up for restoration (unlikely) or is being broken for parts.

I'd like to find out what has happened to it but don't really know the best way to go about tracking it down.

Has anyone had any experience doing this before?

Thanks, I'll give it a go. Hopefully they'll release the info, with all of the data protection legislation I wonder if they'll cooperate.
