Hi,

Has anyone used one of those Autoleads facia plates to fit a standard single din sized stereo in place of a factory fit one?

I bought my girlfriend a nice new iPod stereo for her Civic for Christmas and bought an Autoleads facia plate. It's for a 2004 Civic. But I cant get it to fit!! It just won't sit flush. It's like the adaptor is too big for the hole in the dash. I can't see anyway to make it fit without serious modifications to the adaptor or dashboard. Surely it should just fit! The old stereo just unscrewed from the back of the dash and slipped out, so I'd expect the new facia to slip into the hole and screw into the existing screw holes. The holes are in the facia to screw it in securely, so I can't see why it needs to clip into the dashboard so tightly.

Any experience with these? I might take it to Halfords to see if they can do it, but I'm usually pretty good with this sort of thing so I don't know if they'll be any better at it. I have the whole centre console out of the car so I can get to all sides of it, but can't make the facia fit! I've also tried heating all the plastic up with a hair drier so its more pliable and less likely to snap but with no success.

Any thoughts?

I used one on my Focus, fitted fine so I can't see a reason for having to heat up the plastic? The Focus is double DIN and a little bit more as well, so had to have a larger than average surround. I just picked the one for my car and had no further probs, might be worth double checking on what you've got

Mmm, ok. I only heated it gently because it was so cold and I was worried some of the lugs might snap if I forced it!

I'm sure it's the right one. It's certainly the right shape and size, just won't fit!! It's not out by much and I've got it nearly in, it just pops back out before you get the last corner in!! I'll try and get some photos.

They're rubbish.

Bought one for my wife's Puma. Just didn't fit and I broke one of the lugs. If you accelerate hard the stereo falls out of the dash!

Sorry, I'm not sure if mine was an autoleads one. It was a general comment. I looked at a few and bought what I thought was an official Ford one (from ebay).

Just been out to try it again. The facia is physically way too big for the aperture. I can see why it won't fit. I have the whole centre console out of the car so I can see all the way round it.

I'm really disappointed. If I'd have known it wouldn't fit, I wouldn't have changed it. I've filed down some of the edges, but I don't want to file down the car centre console too much as I'm worried the standard stereo won't fit when we come to sell the car. I did get the facia to fit in, but it cracked at the edge where it was forced in and the stereo aperture on the facia became squashed so would t fit the stereo in!!! How ridiculous. I doubt they'll accept a return on it now either seeing as I've tried to modify it and have cracked it!

Does anyone know if the Connects2 facias are any different to the Auto Leads ones? From the photos it looks exactly the same.

Let's hope so. The thing is, now I'm left with a car, a new stereo and no way to make it fit!! Think I'll take it to an in car audio installer and let them worry about it!

This is the best fit I could achieve. Shortly after it cracked.

Found out the Connects2 facia is identical to the Autoleads one! How annoying. Does anyone know if Honda do one?

Did you ever find a fascia to fit? I have had exactly the same problem with my 2005 type r, had the complete front dash out and the fascia is just too big!!

Unless you've got a satnav in the space, you can fit a stereo into a CTR without any facia plate and it looks fine. The part behind the OEM stereo is a normal size. It just ends up slightly inset, there's no big holes in the dash.

Best pic I could find of when I had mine...
