Thought you guys might like a new project I'm working on. It's a twin turbo 2011 Mustang GT. Right now we just got the kit done. It's on a completely bone stock car except our kit, lowering springs and an off road x pipe. We took it to the drag strip for some testing Wednesday. Went a 10.41@135 on 10 psi first time out. We are going back to the track next Wednesday and hope to go high 9s on the stock converter. We are even leaving the heavy 19" wheels up front. I love how quiet the car is. In the first video you can only hear the loud car I'm racing.

Here's a few pictures

and here is the video
http://youtu.be/13yVmeaHjCI

The car is owned by Jon Lund. The kit was designed and built by Jake Long and myself.

Here is an in car video so you can see how quiet it is.

Plan longterm is to push the stock engine deep into the 9s and then put a built engine in and be the first stock automatic in the 8s. But keep in mind this is not a drag car. It will remain a 100% street car and only get 15" drag radials bolted on for drag testing. This car will also be going to the Texas mile in March.

Thanks for looking

Wow, that looks like seriously neat work under the bonnet - some NA to turbo conversions looks a total mess, with wires and pipes routed anywhere they will go to make them fit, but this one looks like the engine bay was designed with it in mind, though I'm sure it was not an easy job to make it look so good!

What kind of power figures is the car generating? Your links are not working btw, just copy and paste the url from the youtube window straight into the text box and the forum software should format the link properly.

Thanks for the comments and the heads up on the links. They should be fixed. We took a lot of timing thinking of it all before we got started and redid it a few times to get it just right. Glad it shows.

On 8 psi it made 605 rwhp through the auto. We have run it at the track on 10psi but not on the dyno. My guess is about 660 rwhp.

Hoping to make 1200+ by the end of the project and get this stock transmission in the 9s. But overall it's not a drag car. Meant to be an all around badass car.

Nice car! When you say "rwhp" do you mean flywheel HP as measured through the rear wheels? U.S numbers always confuse me. Stock car is 412fwhp, so I can understand 600fwhp with nothing more than a couple of turbos.

However, 660rwhp + say 15% drivetrain loss = 760fwhp. That's 348 extra HP on an otherwise stock engine?

That is measured at the wheels on an Inertia dyno without a driveline correction.

So a stock car on the same dyno would put down about 350 to 360.

And yes, that is on a stock engine. People have actually put down much more power than this car on this engine stock. We are just getting started. We are already building a new forged engine so we are going to push this one a little and see how far we can go within reason.

I think I can get it to live, at least for a little while at 800+ at the wheels so mid 900 at the flywheel. This is all on race gas of course.

That is a nice looking setup. Will you keep the stock gearbox with the built engine or go for a C4 or Powerglide with a Trans Brake to get the 8's?

I presume that Jon did his own tuning biggrin

BTW, do you do a turbo kit for the 03 Lightning? I need to go 9's hehe

What sort of costs are you looking at for that? Say 750rwhp.... No reason... whistle

No, this transmission is great. Would never get rid of it. Although not a drag car we want to put this transmission in the 8s.

On the tuning, actually Jon hasn't even seen the car in person. He lives about 1,000 miles away from me. Drove the car down to me about 4 months ago to see what Jake and I could do. He has been tied up so I've been doing all the tuning. Of course with his input.

Sorry no Lightning kit. We don't really do kits but are considering doing this as a kit.

Not really sure. IF we make it a kit it will be awhile off. We have to finalize testing on this all the way to the max of the turbos. Then do a Boss 302 and do some road course testing. I guess the best way to keep up to date is keep an eye on you tube.

Shame.

Hellion does a rear mount kit that I am not keen on but this looks great and there's way more room under the Lightning hood.

Let me know if you change your mind.

We did a twin turbo mustang a couple of years ago.

The turbo location was chosen for showing and not running but it does have the turbo overhead for more than 1000hp if needed.......but I still don't like the turbo location.

But what happens when you get to a bend in the road? wink
You'd have enough time to slow down, take the corner really really slowly and then power away well before anything that can corner gets close smile
