In order to raise the level of the throttle pedal closer to that of the brake pedal during firm braking, I'm considering adding a 'platform'.

I could of course use a piece of plywood, but I was thinking of something more permanent, or steel plate, but would prefer something less slippery when wet.

Something discrete with an element of 'non-slip' would be best

There are various 'boy racer' pedal sets in the likes of Halfords, but they are a bit gaudy and I don't need all 3 pedals.

Any suggestions?

Bit of aluminium plate to give you the height / shape, and a surface like skateboards have? Could be done with wet and dry paper, possibly?

Did you not think that's what he wanted to do it for?

Apologies, my answer was a little brash, perhaps you are trying to enjoy the merits of cadence clutching?

There's such a thing as a "Paddy Hopkirk" accelerator pedal, which is endorsed by a rally driver from the '60s so looks awesome. You can use that in combination with the booster block, but you may be able to adjust the brake pedal down instead.

Can't you just take the pedal off and bend it in a vice? With the aid of a blowtorch if necessary.

the poorly-chosen name was one I thought of for the Scrapheap Challenge forum years ago....

Griptape. Piss cheap (or probably free for such a small piece) from any skate shop. Or the likes of Car Builder Solutions sell it. Useful in many situations, but I suspect rather too grippy for a throttle pedal. A rubber pad is what you want, ebay has generic ones for example;

What car is it OP ? Can you adjust the accelerator peddle higher ? You can on some cars, my Dad managed to do this on a Clio Williams for me and it made Toe and Heeling a lot easier to learn smile

Can you get adaptor kits to convert a suspended throttle pedal to a floor mounted one. I.e remove the foot pad and replace with a floor mounted pedal? I much prefer a floor mounted pedal to a suspended one.

I've tried to make this work in my car, except I need to have my foot so hard down that the ABS is cutting in in the dry. Any less and I can't reach far down enough from the brake get a decent input on the throttle. Some cars just aren't laid out well for it.

I don't recommend the grip-tape skateboards have. It would damage your shoes quite badly.

The car in question is a Mk4 Mondeo. The brakes are very sharp and the brake pedal very high, even if I execute a full-on, whiplash-inducing, auto-hazard-light-flashing, emergency stop.

For those who are concerned for me, I can heel & toe in other cars.
