Why does everyone drive so frigging slow nowadays?
Discussion
It’s rant time folks,
Why does everyone drive so frigging slow nowadays?!!
Everytime you’re sat at red lights it feels like the cars in front need waking up!! I’m not saying everyone should be driving at 30mph + but at least get to 30mph a bit quicker!!!
Tbh I used to overtake cars only occasionally in the past, now its literally every trip and on most clear roads. It gets to the point where you wish you were in “bumpy cars” so that you could give the car in front a nudge to help them along!!
Maybe its because I’ve been driving for several years but I can’t be the only one who thinks this is the case!!

Maybe the OP is young, but I agree with him/her.
Long lines of people doing 45-50mph on perfectly good, straight 60mph limits is really annoying and wastes my time! If they were a bit further apart so I could overtake safely then I could live with it, but they are often way too close, meaning I have to overtake 5 plus if I want to get past.

I have noticed this, especially over Xmas. I suspect there are a lot of people who rarely venture out in their cars apart from short trips, but have travelled away from their comfort area to visit family/friends..
In a totally non-scientific study, I found last night both my mother & GF squealed & thought two overtakes I made on a NSL road ( both cars doing 35-40 on a clear NSL road!)were " lunatic/ dangerous/ stupid" etc, yet my farther ( who is a qualified advanced driver with IAM) agreed with me that both were 100% safe legal overtakes...
This is probably why we end up with long lines of people following the sleeping idiot doing 40 in an NSL & 40 in a 30, no one has the capacity to make a safe overtake any more, and just follow the tail lights of the car infront until they turn off.

This annoys me beyond reason, up to the bumper infront making overtaking very hard.Long lines of people doing 45-50mph on perfectly good, straight 60mph limits is really annoying and wastes my time! Fuel price I think, as well as odd bits of weather. I was out over Xmas and have done a lot of driving at weekends recently, I've been one of the quicker cars on the motorway at around 75.
Except for Boxing Day, which I assume was the final call for new Land/Speed records for 2011
Actually the bank holidays have been a sweet relief Except for Boxing Day, which I assume was the final call for new Land/Speed records for 2011

Nice empty roads and ok weather,
Been driving 27 years and some drivers these days just have no idea what the NSL sign means. They speed up when they see a 50 for Christ's sake!!!! I blame the lack of public transport. The Numpties who should be on buses and Trains just sit in the car and guide it. No actual driving involved.
