Reading the verdict in the spec bit, i was aghast to see their summary of the BMW X6.

"Jesus Wept. A car you need even less than an X5, but have to pay more for it. A lifestyle statement for fat, unhappy, undersexed overpaid knuckledraggers. Spend £20k on a decent German hatchback and the £25k you've just saved on the therapy a prospective X6 owner definetly needs"

Now i know they make some pretty OTT statements. Every other Korean car is 'The worst car ever made' etc, but this is personal, and about its owners, and quite insulting to say the least.

If Clarkson saying Strikers should be shot is wrong, Top Gear Magazine personally insulting X6 owners is wrong too.

I for one wont be buying Top Gear Magazine again.

I do not always agree wholeheartedly with TopGear/JC pontifications..however in this case they are more or less on the money in my opinion..

If this upsets you because you own an X6 (I don't know if you do or not), you really ought to try to not give a fk what other people think about you or the car you drive.

It's only a magazine, and it's meant in jest (probably). Lighten up!

Besides which you can always wear a paper bag on your head when you drive it. Remember to cut some eye holes out.

On this i agree with top gear , i have only purchased the magazine once , it seems its a slightly more grown up version of max power.

But just to reiterate the point the x6 is seemingly just another pointless exercise in niche filling.

Ha, I dont own one. I quite like them. But wouldnt buy one, even if i had £50k lying around.

I just found the summary needlessly offensive.

Marmite car. I had one a couple of years ago and loved it. No one else did.

But so is tbe X6? IMVHO the only purpose of that vehicle is to make a statement / upset people. Seems to be pretty effective at that.

It's a magazine for adults, I think the writers assume that adults will take it in good humour or be mature enough not to cry about it.

Still, those people who own an X6 deserve all the ire they attract!

I could have put this even more succinctly than Top Gear..

'a car generally bought/driven by the type of person happy to scribble 'drug dealer' as occupation on a mortgage application'

They have a point, it does shout a lifestyle statement a bit too loud, I kind of like it, in fact I posted as such earlier this year as I saw one and absent mindedly quite liked it but I wouldn't ever buy one, not bothered what anyone thinks but am bothered what I think. Sure they released it to make the X5 look like a paragon of self restraint and almost self effacing in comparison.

he has a point... it's not the most professional of summaries. Sounds like the journalist responsible has a bit of a grudge... or fancies himself as the next Clarkson.

Made me laugh - summed up in a funny/amusing way. And yes, it's a poser's car.

It did put me in mind of a dad from the kids old school, little fat short arse, all designer label pastel shirts and a fat belly, he had an X5 and now an X6.
