Speaking with friends, family, colleagues, neighbours, etc., recently, it would seem I am in the minority keeping my cars in the garage. In fact, I have a double garage with 2 cars in - only other stuff in there is 2 bikes, some cases of beer and car cleaning products. Garages are for cars, not junk, or play rooms... what do you do?
Double garage , has had 2 cars in , usually when we are away on hols. I quite often leave a space for 1 car to go in with plenty of room to open the doors .
I have to confess though it's not had a car in for a couple of months and has become a dumping ground for stuff that should really go to the tip. Clearing it out is on my to do list once the weather improves

Perhaps due to the fact that the majority of garages in new-build houses are too small to accommodate a car easily. That was certainly the case in my previous house: my Clio only just fitted in.
We're the only one out of 10 in my current street to actually put a car in the garage: it's a slightly wider/longer/taller than average new-build garage so no excuses.

No car in our garage, its just too small to fit one in. I looked at putting a car in before and an Astra sized car would fit, however once in you would never get the doors open. The other issue being the main fuse boards/power supply for the house is located on the wall right next to the garage door & protrudes out past the edge of the garage door, even if a car was put in there it would only be a matter of time imo. before it was hit. Same for a lot of new build houses.
Yes I have a double garage which luckily is big enough to have 2 cars in it, a fridge freezer, tumble dryer a couple of sets of wheels, BBQ, all of my tools and gardening equipment.
At the moment it is a mess, I really don't like tidying it because of spiders
but I don't know what I'd do without it!

but I don't know what I'd do without it!We have a large, wooden garage-cum-shed at the back of our house...My M3 lives in there (along with lots of other stuff such as push bikes, tools, lawnmower, etc) and we are in the process of turning the back third into a seperate room for my partner to use for her massage/treatment/crafts business.
It is alarmed, secure and watertight and there is enough space for a set of workbenches/shelves around the sides that can be used even with the car in place.

Our last house was new and had a built in garage, which was small. Managed to get the MR2 in there when I had that and laterly the Viper - BUT it was a squeeze and you had to be Mr Bendy to get out! We're the only one out of 10 in my current street to actually put a car in the garage: it's a slightly wider/longer/taller than average new-build garage so no excuses.
Yes, partly as it's an insurance requirement and partly as that is what is was designed for. I am one of only about 3 in my road (c.50 houses) that does use it for keeping a car in though.
It's a relatively new build (1997) but still takes a normal sized car without any issues.
Fortunately it's a tandem, but not quite long enough to take both cars, so the rear half now has my old kitchen units in it for storage, and some partition walls along with a fridge/freezer and tumble dryer.......
