opportunist thieves?
Discussion
I had a phonecall from my mum this morning saying that her car had been Broken into. I went round to check for damage etc. the glovebox had been emptied and the contents scattered in the car, loose change of £5 or so gone and bizarrely they took 3 bottles of shloer from the 6 that were in the boot, they left the karcher pressure washer my parents borrowed from me yesterday and more importantly the disabled badge was still on the dash.
Think my mum must have left the car unlocked as theres no damage. Bit puzzled on what they took ( the soft drinks) leads me to think it was kids?
What do the PH collective think? Do we just put it down to the car being unlocked and some kids had a rummage or it's been targeted and have to worry about the alloys going missing etc.

I think this happens more than people realise.
I don't lock my mx5 as I'd like to think the scrotes will try the doors before slashing the roof to gain entry. There is absolutely nothing of value in the car and it has a disclock to stop it getting stolen. I've found the ashtray and glovebox open on a number of occasions and even the boot once.

Stop using this, as well as the opposite of that, and the sideways triangles denoting lesser than and greater than, there really is no need for it apart from trying to fit in on PH, just say "loose change of around £5 or so" gets the point across slightly better as some people may not know what those symbols are, because really in normal day typing on the internet between people, there really is no need what so ever. What do the PH collective think?

could have just been a browser encoding issue.A number of years ago my Mum had her car opened and the change from the ashtray taken but nothing else. It was maybe 3 or 4 pounds worth.
Fast forward to a few years later and a 'mate' was recounting a story of being skint and gasping for a smoke when he saw some cash in the ashtray of a Ford Cortina so got in using an old
Ford key he had in his pocket and made off with the cash to the 24hr garage across the road.
I made him give me the money back for s
ts and giggles but I doubt it taught him a lesson.

Invariably, they will come across one that has been left unlocked. The same thing happened to me a while back. Nothing but loose change taken from the ashtray, although they had been through the glove box and all the other compartments.
It's worth phoning it in to Plod as the neighbourhood officer will log it and key an eye out (for a group of kids on a sugar high?). Apparently, even if nothing is taken, the offence of interfering with a motor vehicle has been committed.
just remind your Mum to make sure she locks the car in future.

When i go out on some late night walks, i see dozens of cars left unlocked, despite it being the middle of nowhere, the nearest Police station being 15 miles away and it being the early hours.
Some people invite crime....
Went for a late night walk around Camden Square in London once. Every single car had now radio and the wires hanging out. Some people invite crime....
Every single one.
Another reason why I don't live there...

I had an Astra that had no interior for a bit, kinda stripped out track idea in progress and I used to leave that unlocked as it had a transponder immobiliser and that. BUT, then I worried that kids or scum bags might just let the hand brake off and let it run into another car or something, and my insurance would still be liable...?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
