Hi all.
Just joined, tried mitsubishi-forums but they won't give posting permission before they feel like getting around to it. Well done PH, at last a car discussion portal that does what it says.
My beef with 'myth' subishi is this:
Just bought a cheapy carisma for the winter so I can lay up my MX5. Guess what?...the damn thing crapped on me. Was running fine but I tried to give the GDI engine a decoke through the throttle body, the ECU threw an error.
Now, having read about the ECU reset by disconnecting the battery, I did just that. Surprise surprise the reset doesn't work. All it does is extinguish the light. Every time after the so-called idle learning process when the engine is restarted the ECU revs the nuts off the engine.
Obviously the ECU is going to have to be plugged in at the dealers. This fact alone makes the car totally of no use to me.
Reading general comments on the net it seems mitsubishi's throttle by wire is the worst of the bunch. As for their ECU I now suspect it's designed to deliberately malfunction if it's seen an error, thus forcing the owners mugging by main dealers.
My little MX5 on the other hand, is a dream to drive and maintain.
In relation to Mitsubishi, never again will I purchase one of their punter-locking rip off pieces of crap. Forget the alleged reputation for quality, it's total BS, a complete myth.
Plan now for the crapisma is to get it sorted at the dealers, then absolutely get rid of it. I'm hurt by how it's repaid my kindness quite frankly.
If the dealers want big money then fine it can stay unfixed and be driven straight to the breakers with sht wiped all over it.
Mitsubishi PAH!....unreliable uncooperative rip off junk. Should have bought another Mazda.

The simple fact of the matter is that most of the bits under the bonnet of cars these days are made by the same Tier1/2 suppliers. In fact, there is a very good chance that the MAF, throttle body, engine ECU and about a million other parts are all from DENSO on both the Mitsu and the Mazda!
So, you had some bad luck with a particular car (and it could just have well been the mazda in all honesty) and now you are ranting and raving complaining that because of one little problem everything ever made by said company is sh*t. well, tough luck chappy, sh*t happens !!
No doubt you tried to "fix" the throttle by ramming god knows what in terms of screwdrivers, solvents and all sorts of crap through it as well i expect.............
(BTW, the system is reseting (hence the MIL extinguishes) after a battery disconnect, but clearly the malfunction is still present, as the symptoms return immediately)

......not so. Moreover, having owned and rebuilt several Mazdas, I am in a fairly good position to confirm their general reliability as superior to what I have seen of this Mitsubishi.

........Incorrect, You are of course aware I am providing a generally shared sentiment that GDI powered vehicles are unreliable in terms of ECU and throttle systems quality. Subsequently you should have realised this unreliability is at odds with Mitsubishi's alleged reputation for quality.

.......maybe you could show us where I said that? However you have your right to accept poor quality, as I have my choice not to. As a matter of fact in my business poor quality on my part kills the wrong people, and gets me thrown in jail.

.......The malfunction is not present. The problem is the ECU not overwriting. If there was a peripheral malfunction the ECU system wouldn't run properly in the first place.

........1) I am not what you might call 'chappy'. 2) You are obviously content to have it on yours, but personally I don't have sht on my drive and I don't care who makes it. 3) it might be helpful if you were to consider the trade and profession of the person you obviously know nothing about. 4) it would be more helpful if you could share some knowledge on why this ECU does not overwrite and use new inputs.
As for sht happens, well I hope for your sake karma has overlooked you and your judgmental presumptions. I wouldn't want to be accusing you of stabbing your vehicle with a screwdriver without knowing anything about you.
Either this mitsy will be fixed & given away, or it will be given to the scrap man. Either way it won't stay on my drive for long. I've torched better than that thing. Still it's my fault I suppose it'll teach me for buying the piece of crap on a whim. I have a mate who has a mobile diagnostics 'side line' I think I'll tell him to take the bloody thing away when he's done with it.

So you have had one bad experience with a Misubishi car and they are all rubbish. Well that makes lots of sense....NOT
......It's personal choice. I choose not to ever trust their products again, particularly anything with Mitsubishi GDI. I imagine you must be inferring millions of Volvo owners and shogun owners who complain about this engine are also not making much sense, and all the EVO owners who complain about Mitsubishi's ECU & throttle bodies must be a tad cranky eh?

YOU POURED SOMETHING INTO THE INTAKE OF THE MOTOR AND CAUSED THE ECU TO REGISTER ERROR CODES. THE ERROR CODES YOU CAUSED, REQUIRE THE USE OF EITHER A OBD2 READER OR MITSUBISHI DIAGNOSTICS TO RESET.THE ONLY DESIGN FAULT IN THIS SCENARIO, IS THAT OF YOUR DNA.
I am slightly failing to see why you got this car in the first place? So it's crap? (well i could have told you that!) we get rid of it then! Smash it up with a hammer if it makes you feel better, it's your car ! ;-) So you're never going to buy a mitsubishi again, wow, have you told them? I imagine that the Mistui senior board are right now looking for a global solution to help you, yes you,the guy who must have spent nearly £150 on one of their cars (second hand) lol!

Don't try and maintain your own cars if you don't know how to do it...
If you've been dumping all kinds of cleaning s
t into the TB, the chances are that you've either killed the MAF or an o2 sensor.
If you actually went as far as to pull the TB apart, then check cables are all plugged back in.
EDIT: You say that when you start the engine now, it revs the nuts off? Sounds to me like you've fecked/incorrecty refitted the throttle position sensor.

these gdi engines fitted to carismas are known to give trouble if owners have failed to read handbook .... I read that if you run them on 95ron unleaded by 60K miles this carbon build up occurs ... engine designed for super unleaded ONLY ... then I read on about the soon to be common E10 biofuel blend compatibility & yet again it's unsuitable for that engine & will damage it (as with other early direct injection petrol engines)

yes, because of course, fuel octain rating is the primary influence on engine carbon "build up" (what ever that is)File yet another "don't believe everything you read on the internet" case ;-)
