If you have to have DRL's, at least make them like Porsche.

I dont know what Porsche it was, but this image is the closest i could find. They may even be aftermarket, as looking at some images of the Panamera and Cayenne, they seem to be as bright and st as all the others. Anyway, the ones i saw were lovely. They gave a little bit of light but didnt burn my eyeballs through to my ears like most of them do.

As far as im aware, the DRL EU bks doesnt stipulate how large or bright they need to be, so why the fk do companies like Citroen try and put Heathrow to shame?

I really dislike those Citroen ones. Not because they are blinding or none-sense like that, but because they accentuate how tall and narrow the front of the car is. Truely ruins the design imo.

Strange, I never seem to experience that problem. Perhaps my eyes are super-strong? Agreed that the layout that Citroen have chosen looks ludicrous but even it doesn't seem to dazzle my mighty eyes.

All this whining about DRLs sounds exactly like the gnashing of teeth that accompanied the mandatory introduction of airbags.

In time, all cars will have DRLs (and yes, in time they'll also all be LEDs) and we'll all simply have gotten used to them.

Stop railing against them, there are more important things to fight in this unjust world!

should do what the superb Audi ones do, dim substantially when you turn the lights on

Someone on Briskoda posted a photo of their facelift Octavia VRS a while back. The DRL's had been dimmed right down (I think you do this with VCDS) and it looked fantastic. I usually find DRL's look too bright or just plain naff, but these looked superb. I can't remember what the thread was about so doubt I'll be able to find the image.

LED DRLs (and other lights for that matter) make sense, but they could make them look a bit less... silly. I wonder if, as headlights also go LED, they'll stop building them as separate units and go back to "dim dips" by lighting one of the LEDs that are usually dipped beam?

We think they look silly because we're not really used to them and manufacturers are still getting used to the freedom with which they can be specified/placed/configured. Just like airbags then, although subject to less technological innovation that allowed more discrete airbag fitment over time.

Why not just leave them at a more sensible level to start with so they don't have to be dimmed?

Or how about using the lights that are already there, dipped headlights do the job just as well...

We think they look silly because we're not really used to them and manufacturers are still getting used to the freedom with which they can be specified/placed/configured more desperate to make their car look different as design is increasingly dictated by safety legislation. Just like airbags then, although subject to less technological innovation that allowed more discrete airbag fitment over time.

Wifes Meriva has some DRL's that are fooking bright, put the sidelights on and you think all the lights have gone off there is that much difference, stupid idea really, should be sidelight bright at all times.

I am sure the owners think this house looks superb too, many will disagree.

Head lights are for seeing others, side lights are to be seen so do not need to be bright. The human brain is lazy and will filter out the unlit cyclists, crossing pedestrians in a sea of bright DRL's on a dull day.

The problem is they are using a safety measure as a fashion statement, to the point where the safety aspect is defeated. They are supposed to be 'see me' lights, not 'look at me!' lights.

There's plenty of more discrete ways of achieving the same thing. Volvo have done it for years and nobody has ever complained. VW Golf DRLs are discrete.

Are DRLs actually bright?
I know everyone moans about them, and how they burn retinas, but isn't it just the LED colour temperature making them look bright?
