As a child I fantasized about supercars, but as a grown-up I tend to focus my attentions on realistic goals. Middle aged dullness, I know.
I read the 'Most beautiful car since 2000' poll, and I couldn't picture any of them except the Aston Martins. So I wondered who else (like me) isn't at all interested in cars they know they will never own?

Other. It's not just supercars I have an interest in; there are hundreds of cars I would love to own or at least drive, from vintage stuff (1920s on) to what most would consider boring, mass-population cars kicking about today, up to your exotica from pretty much any era.
This pretty much says what I was going to post.As a car fan I'm interested in a lot I will never own....got to dream though! You never know i may inherit or win the lottery/premium bonds ! So I guess until then it's good to do the research !

Oddly enough - and honestly - no, I don't. I'll appreciate the £200K motor but I'll always produce more dribble for the £15K Megane R26.R which I could afford but don't buy on account of my miserliness. One day I will probably own a Ferrari 308 or 328 for a couple of years so I admit I do gawp when I see one of those, but other than that supercars will get an appreciative glance and nothing more.

in 20 years time you'll be able to pick up a nice gallardo for 60k i reckon. The bugger with supercar depreciation is the classic car appreciation! I'm thinking a Gallardo or similar in 20 years time

This is the real issue, we can dream of owning exotic cars but unless you earn the spondulicks it's a dream for most of us as they never really come down to a realistic level. Nice dream though, Hmmmmm 599 GTB...
'Other' for me...
I don't lust after supercars at all, but I do obsess about cars I will probably never own just for practical reasons- i.e. I have the means but not the time, I'm tied up with other cars, 'never meet your heroes' fears etc... mostly classics.
An example here is the '02 series BMWs from the 60s/70s- I love the way they look inside and out, I obsessed about them for ages even buying books and workshop manuals- but it is unlikely I'll ever own one. I'd be disappointed with its 'worm & wheel' steering and the lack of power. Plus I put all my 'interesting car' time and effort into the racer.
'02 series Beemers are relatively plentiful and very cheap and I'd love to do something like build it into a car which wouldn't disappoint dynamically- with a more powerful motor, revised gearbox ratios, rack & pinion steering etc- but will I ever? probably not.
Another example of this is my current crush- 80s rear-engine Skodas. Again, inexpensive and acheivable but do I have the time?

I love supercars , however im not sure if one day i may own one.
As for stuff like rs4 , cosworth scoobies and the ilk i reckon better as an everyday car.
However a Porsche 911 gt3 , turbo or a r35 gtr could possibly happen , as one day i will inherit various bits and pieces.
I dont want to change the type r to be honest at the moment though!
