What's the difference likely to be in the real world?

All manual cars. I am very tempted by the 530i, it's a lot of car for the cash....

I'd of thought they would all be fairly similar in the real world to be honest. Although if you're considering a 3.0 straight six then mpg should be one of the last things you're concerned with.

The 225 will give you better mpg than either after owning a 325i and cupra r

+1.

I've owned a 325i E46 and S3 210, and the 1.8T is the more economical engine when driven in the same conditions. The BMW engine sounds soooo much better though.

The 1.8t can be made to sound quite nice with a miltek system - massively tuneable too if you want more power - i'd consider suspension mods too - the BMW is certainly more the drivers car but the Audi would be the one I'd chose in the real world - 4wd security, lovely detailing and a good balance of performance and running costs. Also I'm not sure they have quite such a pretty boy image anymore as they have all moved on to something else

we already have a 225 TT guys, which we are keeping. I put it into the equation so I could compare.

I really have an itch for a 330i or a 530i and am tending towards the 5 series. just interested to hear from people if there is much difference in MPG between the two...

I was getting around 28-30MPG from my 330ci

Sure someone with a 530i will be along shortly to let you know what they get

Is this between e46 and e39 or e90 and e60?

In manual guise the e46 330Ci can achieve the combined figure of 31mpg quite comfortably, town driving will kill it though.

^^^^WHS

The 272bhp 3.0 in the E60 can do 47mpg (highway) which, quite frankly, is witchcraft!

As opposed to the made up figures the manufacturers provide I'd imagine.

If you've already got a TT I'd go for the 530i.

Well I've had a TT 225, an E39 530d and currently have a 330ci M sport!

TT is much better than the 330ci on fuel, although the BMW is an auto!

The 530 was mapped "I know" but managed stupid MPG, en route from Newport to London it averaged 60.1mpg albeit at <60mph.

My favourite is the 330 though, which will average 32mpg on a run at 70mph, all round a better car than the TT! Although non petrol heads friends and family prefer the TT
