328i
540i
Omega MV6 or any V6 omega manual with a welded diff will do (very good fun for the money, break away nice an prgressive to)

Stick with naturally aspirated if you're doing it on the cheap as cheap turbo cars are more hassle than they are worth.

A grand will buy you a showroom condition one owner Volvo 360 GLS ( I believe thats the 2ltr twin carb RWD version) stick a set of twenty quid love you longtime tires on the back and you have the ultimate Q drifter!

You might want to stick a Trilby hat and a box of tissues on the back parcel shelf, along with one of those Christian fish things on the tail gate as well biglaugh

328i sport would be my choice, 200sx are plentiful but finding a good manual is becoming rare and prices are going up

Would an mgf drift?

All cars can drift. It might be harder in some than others. jester

there was a thread on driftworks about whether the latest mid engined MR2 would drift, the responses suggested it wouldnt but the pictures showed a different story. having the good old k-series would worry me though...

As above,
the actual dimensions of the car play a part.
The Mgf is short and not the easiest to hold in a drift,
If you can find one the early Datsun/Toyota 2wd pick ups are good, as they are quite long very easy to adjust with weight in the back, and very easy to change the diffs.

However the BMW route seems to be the best choice on a budget.

Seriously, that kind of money should get a roughish Locost or Westfield this time of year that will be fairly cheap to brighten up and will drift all day and hardly touch it's tyres.

A couple of grand will buy a good Mazda and a couple of sets of wheels too.

Just pick up any reasonably powerful RWD car, weld diff if required and go play.

Old 700/900 series Volvos seem to be popular.

£2k isn't going to buy you anything like a usable Westfield, maybe a restoration project. You could pick up a rough Locost though, or a Dutton.

The guys on the Westfield experience days manage to get through plenty of tyres as well.

Think of the poor mother, giving birth to a mid-size coupe sideways.

Indeed biggrin, here is a picture of the poor "mother", Felix wankel!

The first and probably last time we will see a pic of wankel on PH
