Awful Car Classifieds
Discussion
Like many on here, I spend quite a bit of time browsing the classifieds looking for bargains, charting prices and generally spending money I don't have. On occasion an advert stands out:
Take this for example:
Fiat Coupe 20V turbo

Now, quite apart from the fact that they've chosen to take the photos at night, there's the atrocious spelling, the fact that they appear to be palming off a car with unspecified ("over 100k") milage as a 65k mile example because it's had an engine swap, and a general air of the car having some serious skeletons under the bonnet. And yet they're asking strong money and seem to be trading on their reputation. Shocking, IMO, from a professional outfit!
I'm giving an honourable mention to this ad too:
BMW 318is

Fair enough, he's asking pennies, but it's got the industry standard 200x300 jaunty angle in a dark warehouse cameraphone pic. The real clangers though are starting the Ad with "318is coupe jet black very little rust" ORLY? Care to elaborate? And the ad ends with the immortal line:
"car has no mot tax or reverse gear but i've been quoted £100 to fix it. "
Ok! in that case how about fixing it for £100 and then flogging it for £700? Methinks that there's more to this car than meets the advert....
So what other adverts have made you cringe?

I can cope with the odd badly taken picture from someone who isn't used to doing it or only has a cheap camera phone to their disposal but it's the dire descriptions that irritate me. No mentions of mileage, service history or generally anything constructive about building an impression of the car.

What a fantastic idea for a thread! I wonder why nobody has ever done it before?...
I am sorry, my Lord. I'll be sure to ask your permission next time.I'm well aware of other threads of this ilk. I even did searches just to make sure that I wasn't flooding the forum with crap. In short, don't like? Don't Read.

You did a search, and couldn't find the frequently updated, 92-page thread, on exactly the same subject as yours?I'm well aware of other threads of this ilk. I even did searches just to make sure that I wasn't flooding the forum with crap. In short, don't like? Don't Read.
If you know what topics have been covered and how many times on PH over the years, I think it's time to 'put the mouse down and step away from the computer sir' and go get a life!
As has been said, seen it all before? Thats great, but not everyone has, so don't read it and move on to the next exiting topic which has never been brought up before. Or even better, grab a coat and leave the confinds of your home for a while, it will do you good!
Anyway, for us 'casual' PH users, back to the thread for those of us who were enjoying the topic (possibly for the first time)!

C0ck.You do realise that PH has been running for over 10 years and there has probably been something like a million threads in that time?
THis being the case, pretty much every single thread has been posted already in some format.
SO if you want an encyclopedia then sit on Wiki all day and leave the rest of us to PH.

That's a cracking example: Not only has the work experience boy been sent out with a Nokia 3100 to take the pictures ,but the text singularly fails to tell you one useful thing about the car. History? MOT? Previous Keepers? http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...
