In spring I am selling my vx220 to make way for a caterham. As well as advertising in this country I am also considering advertising in Europe as they fetch quite a good price over there.

How do you go about selling over there and has anyone had any experience in doing this. Does anyone know any good websites to advertise in France, Germany etc and how would you do the cash transfer. Also is there any red tape to go through or any taxes I would have to pay.

Thanks in advance

Adam

Unless you're prepared to register it abroad don't bother.
The reason they're dearer is because of paperwork and logistics.

Advertise it here for what it's worth a and let a European dealer buy it off you, sort out all the paperwork and earn his profit.

No it's not LHD.

I take it it's not an easy procedure. I have heard of people selling to the continent and thought it was a case of sorting out the v5 to say its been exported and the buyer has to sort out the registration of the car in their country.

If it's notLHD,I wouldn't bother. Bear in mind yourcar is a Vauxhall, which isn't a 'known' brand on the continent. That and RHD will severely limit its appeal.

Here it's actually an Opel Speedster.
The question would be whether Vauxhall will issue a full EU certificate of conformity for your car. If yes then someone can import it and register it in Europe.

There are more and more sports cars being imported from UK and RHD/LHD is much less of an issue if the price is ok and the exchange rate is good.

Thanks for the replies.

So how would I go about getting an EU certificate. Surely it would be fine as its identical to the Opel Speedster.

Advertise the car on www.mobile.de

Its a Europe wide site and loads of UK dealers and UK private sellers advertise on there. Let the buyer do the work in importing into their country, advertise the car and await the call. Simple.

Contact Vauxhall customer services. It should just be a formality but what hoops you have to jump through to get it (and what if any charge to pay) may vary.

That sounds simple enough. Cheers

You might want to find out the internet sites for VX220/Speedster owners clubs in the respective countries and advertise it on there?
