I hate not knowing what car i want.
Discussion
Had the ST220 for 13 months now and fancy a change. I've had 7 cars in as many years, and always used to find something on autotrader and go and buy it within a few days.
Now im struggling, and have been looking for weeks. I set myself a budget of £10k max with less than 80k on the clock and less than 5 years old (in before 'buy on condition and history etc'). Im unsure if i want economy, power or a bit of both.
Problem is, although my budget is £10k, i could easily adjust this budget to £18k.
So i look at A4 avants for £9k, but then start looking at what i could get if i just removed my budget restraints... RR Sports, VXR8's, 330's, C-Class Estates, Jag XF's etc etc.
I always just go around and around in circles on auto trader, then give up after a few hours, convince myself i'll keep the mondeo, then start looking again the following day
I suppose it's the fact im being a tight arse, and even the £10k would hurt a little, so £18k is well out of the question, i'd pass out!

Well with that sort of money, almost any car is in within reach. The only factor on what to get is what you actually need from a car or what you want from a car.
No point buying a fast estate if you not likely to have passengers and only ferry yourself about. Same goes for buying a 2 seater sports car. No point if you have a family with dogs etc.

Welcome to my world!
In the past 24 hours I've looked at a Octavia vRS, 325i, Mazda 5, C-Max, S-Max, C220 Kompressor. Considered cash only, finance, raid the house fund, raid the children's fund, trade in, not trade in. Budget changes, choices change.
I've talked myself in and out of all of these, at least twice.

Anything hatchback or small is out of the question. Its an estate, a 4x4, or a big saloon. No point buying a fast estate if you not likely to have passengers and only ferry yourself about. Same goes for buying a 2 seater sports car. No point if you have a family with dogs etc.

Haha, pain in the arse isnt it... I've thought about all the options like you. At times like this, i hate being a PH. I'd rather be one of these lemmings who just buys an old sIn the past 24 hours I've looked at a Octavia vRS, 325i, Mazda 5, C-Max, S-Max, C220 Kompressor. Other than 'a change' what else do you fancy / need?
Seats? MPG? Daily commute? Badge snobbery? Rarity?
I never seem to know. I like the idea of a 2.0d for the MPG i'd get over the Mondeo, but know i wont be able to hoon and get to work when late like i do now.Seats? MPG? Daily commute? Badge snobbery? Rarity?
As far as badges, im not too fussed, but you can get an idea of what i've looked at so far;
A4, 330, RR Sport, X5, A5, VXR8, Octavia VRS (Horrible interior), Vectra, Insignia, C Class, X Type, Evo, Impreza etc.

I'm the same. I'd idea what I wanted. After about 12 months of search narrowing it's a toss up between a e46 M3 or a newer 535d. Why not buy the car that beat the ST220 when Top Gear tested them both, is faster than the 220, uses less fuel than the 220, has 4WD and an LSD unlike the 220, is even less common than the 220, can be easily chipped up to 320bhp unlike the 220 and will leave you with a load of cash in your bank?http://www4.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

I'm in a similar boat and have pretty much gone through my list of cars I want to own, bar the owns I know would be crazy stupid to buy or just a variation of ones i've had before.
So i'm sticking with what I have for now, saving up and next time round i'm going to get something small, RWD and completely selfish in an attempt to fall back in love with driving. I've had too many barges and saloons which have ticked all the boxes apart from 'fun'. I'm even bored of hot hatches which I never thought i'd say!
