The worst modern car
Discussion
This is something which not many people ask anymore, because most modern cars are reliable and dont fall to pieces.
Nowadays I think people tend to dislike particular models for other reasons - more like blandness, or lack of driving enjoyment, or low equipment levels rather than poor engineering.
In the 70s and 80s, there was a whole host of truly awful cars on the market worldwide so it was easy to poke derision at so many models. However today, even the Koreans are making cars which last a long time and are not too badly engineered.
So, I ask this question: What do you think is the absolute worst new car available today?
This used to be so easy, but now I struggle - I would like to suggest the Diahatsu Sirion. A hideous plasticky box with no performance. There must be more though..

Well, a Clio is arguably a better car than a Ferrari 458 Italia... Cheaper to buy, insure, service, tax, more economical, more practical, can seat more people.
The point is, what criteria are you using to define "good" and "bad"?
For me, right now, the best car in the world is a 7 year old BMW 320d Touring. A new M Sport 335i might be better if I was writing this for Evo, but I'm not. The worst car is a Bugatti Veyron. Ridiculously expensive, hideously impractical, a Perodua thing would be better for me.

Vocal Minority I agree Perodua make awful cars. We dont see them here but i have seen one in Europe - dreadful.
In answer to the question about criteria, I mean a car so badly designed and made that it is a bad product. There are alot of boring and bland boxes around, but these days few of them are badly made or awful/dangerous to drive.

My heart always sinks when I go to pick up the keys for a hire car and I see a little Vauxhall badge.
Horrible, horrible cars. Even the Hyundai i10 I had recently, whilst being obviously crap, had more character and personality.
Agree with you - Once rented a Corsa. Appallingly made, poor handling, uncomfortable and the interior stank of the glue they use to put it together.

Another suggestion - Renault Fluence. Old technology, 4 speed, horrid plastic steering wheel, and exposed metal around the door frames inside the car. Poor quality dash/stereo. Like something from the early 90s.
Really? It's just a current Mégane with a different front and a boot.MotorFan said:

Yes! Good selection. Driven a Golf bluemotion DSG in the UK last year. The car itself was great and very nicely made, but the engine was a horror. Noisy, nasty diesel engine ( i hate diesels) and if you dont disable the function with a switch, it turns the engine off every time you stop! Stressful, irritating and a ridiculous idea.MotorFan said:

So what makes the Daihatsu Sirion worse than all the other hideous plastic boxes with no performance? FWIW the previous generation Sirion (up to 2005 which I still regard as modern) came in a 2WD and 4WD 'Rally' variant, and they go pretty well for a normally aspirated 1.3L engine.Mr2Mike said:

Only other hire car I refused was an old shape Vectra, which suggests my dislike of this manufacture may be a pattern.

Not because it's a bad car, but because of it's pumped up over inflated opinion of itself as though it's the last and first word in all things automotive.
