Cornwall to Barcelona Banger Rally.

Need a car to take me and my old man from Cornwall to Barcelona in September. Needs to cost around £350 and have an MOT until October ideally. It's all for charidee and we're hoping to get the local college involved with the mechanical side and livery design of the car. Any suggestions or links to adverts would be most appreciated.

sounds like fun... is £350 the maximum allowed budget? are you scared of work? if not... this might be worth a shout. Guess you need to find out what condition all the important things are... brakes, suspension and engine.

Also, you might struggle finding much, as price of scrap is fairly high(ish). So if you don't get much maybe worth going along to some auctions, its amazing sometimes what you can get for under £500. - I guess you need something with MOT and Tax too?

Luckily my uncle is doing the run on his bike and he's a mechanic, so we have our own support crew. £350 is a rough price for entry, it's not compulsory, last year had some very dubious bangers. MOT isn't essential, just would make life easier.

£350 will be tough, I sold a tatty Berlingo van as a non runner (needed £1,300 worth of Injectors) for £450 with a well worded, detailed advert on ebay. As said, with the price of scrap you only need a few bits of value before you can scrap it for profit at this level, even small cars are worth £140 scrap if you know where to go.

Push it to £500 (or haggle hard) and get this:

Nice, they had one of those last year. That's a bit like bringing a gun to a knife fight though. In an ideal world i'd do it in something ropey and Italian/British. I've got my feelers out and hopefully something wil crop up. I've got until September so I should find something.
