Father in Law's Car - Value & Selling.
Discussion
Father in Law died over the Christmas holiday.
He owned an 05 IS200 Auto which I've been offered (at market value) but its too juicey for my 120 mile commute + tax is £260 per year.
My wife has said that it can be sold and the proceeds split between her and her siblings, 5 in total.
I've had a look at values but they are pretty wide ranging.
Looking on Ebay similar cars but with higher mileage (his has 36k on the clock) are up for approx. £4k.
It hasn't got leather which is a pity but its got, 2 owners, FSH and has been looked after. I will put 12 months MOT on it as well (5 months remaining).
Any idea what to advertise it for?
I would like a quick sale and I don't think my wifes wants it on the driveway for weeks.
WBAC have offered about £2720 which I may go for if I have no joy privately after a few weeks.

Is your wife an executor? Has she been granted probate yet? If not, you won't be able to sell yet as it forms part of your FiL's estate and can't be disposed of before probate is granted.

She is Joint Executor with the Solicitors and met with them yesterday where she was informed the car can be sold due to its relatively low value.
We did think we would have to wait for Probate but not with lower valued items. His estate will be over the £325k limit so once probate is granted everything has to be itemised and valued. Probate will take another 3-4 weeks.
The Solicitors did mention that with household items its perfectly acceptable just to say they have been taken to the dump!
