Soft tops in windy weather
Discussion
Whenever it is windy, I seem to hear of at least one death resulting from a tree falling on a car. At the same time I've also seen a dramatic increase in the amount of people buying fabric soft-top convertibles such as the Audi A3 and Mazda MX5s etc.
Whats the general take on the safety of these cars in very bad weather? Is it best not to drive them because if a tree/large object fell on one I think its pretty much game over right?

If a tree falls on any car, its game over. By and large, trees are extremely heavy, extremely solid objects that will crush any car to a pulp regardless of what roof it has or hasn't got!
I can't say I've ever noticed an increase in people buying soft tops when its windy either, although I've just bought one and it has been very windy, so you might be on to something

Let's see - you have tree that possibly weighs several tons coming crashing down on you and your car, and you think that a metal or fabric roof is going to make THE difference?? f
k me "acid rain", ain't heard those words in ages.Surprised the eco nuts haven't been using that one more often to frighten people into thinking they'll melt when it rains.
Op when it snowed heavily in 2010/2011 I had a s
t load of snow on top of the convertible I had at the time (snow is very heavy when compact as people in avalanches find out quickly) it seemed fine in that, I presume a tree would probably just about be too heavy for it though so I sold it
