Just in the process of buying a used Ford and this seems like a decent option for a 56 car, if the list of exceptions isn't huge.

It seems to include wear and tear items, up to 80k miles - which seems pretty good to me.

Does anyone have any experience of these, positive or otherwise?

Monday bump, in the hope of some response.

Need to make a decision this week - so very grateful for any input.

Thanks in advance.

Have you considered a third party like Warranty Direct?

I have mine with them. Seems to cover most things (inc wear and tear), but does have a £50 excess per claim.

Edited to add- shop around and see what else there is out there before getting the Ford one.

Thanks FunkyRobot, yeah - I had/am considering a 3rd party one, but having read many cases of exclusions for "wear and tear" items I'm a little reluctant.

On initial inspection of the paperwork and conversation with the dealer, it covers the things I am concerned about (dual mass flywheel and turbo - both £1500+ jobs to replace). However I was hoping people might have some examples of things which were/weren't covered, to give me an indication of whether the Ford offereing is worth the £900~ for 3 years cover.

Many years ago I bought a 3 year old Fiesta XR2i with 28,000 on the clock which had a five star ford warranty or I think thats what it was called at the time, which was meant to cover everything.
3 months after buying the car the steering refused to turn round right hand bends lol, so I took it into the local Ford dealership at the time and was told that it needed some kind of steering joint.

The dealership was fantastic but the claim was turned down, so really the warranty was not worth a light and it had cost the previous owner of the car a lot of money, plus a fee for putting the warranty in my name. So myself I wouldn't bother with any warranty unless of course its a manufacturers warranty which comes with the car when its new.

There are too many get out clauses in the small print with any car warranties, after all they are there to make the company money not you.

When we had a problem with the clutch on the wifes Ka (we have the top of the range gold or platinum warranty), Ford took the car in and advised that they would look at the job, but if it was the clutch I would have to fork out the £750! myself.

Fortunatley it was just a gearbox sensor, but you have to trust the dealers and then pay dealer prices if it isnt covered. Not 100% if I would get it again.

Thanks chaps, your input is grately appreciated.

According to the salesman (so I'm slightly dubious, and want to read the small print), wear and tear items (such as the clutch) are covered up to 80,000 miles. However I guess, if the part shows signs of "abuse", they might flat-out reject the claim - even if it was pre-existing on the vehicle when I bought it.

I suspect I might be better off with the Ford warranty than a 3rd party - but I'm not convinced it's worth the money. Think I need to ask a few more specific questions along the above lines before I part with my hard earned.

I had Ford's gold warranty on a 56 plate Focus and I could not get them to accept a claim for the flywheel and clutch. That failure set me back £1300.

I also found that just because you take it to a Ford dealer, it does not necessarily mean that they support the warranty. One place I tried for another issue, would only accept warranty claims on their own third party warranty if the car was over three years old. Although I do suspect that was down to the service representative not really understanding. But something to possibly check if you need to use the warranty.

That's the sort of thing I am concerned about - what was their reasoning for turning down the warranty claim?

I explicitly asked about DMF and clutch (also buying a 56 plate 2.0 TDCI), and was told they would be covered.

They said it was within normal wear and tear rates based on the age and mileage. Although the technician that showed me the worn parts did agree it was ridiculous the number of failures he had seen.
