Planning a 'ring trip but unsure if I need EU recovery in France/Belgium/Germany or on the actual ring itself? I know I need a warning triangle and hi viz in France.

Had a Google around but can't find an answer.

As far as I know you don't need it, but I would strongly recommend it. Having been sat on the hard shoulder of an autobahn next to a smoking car, I was very glad that we had it.

I'm with ADAC. European cover, including in britain. Well worth the money. As far as I remember, it isn't a fortune.

ADAC Partner Plus here - covers both of us for 98 Euros a year.

Not used it in the UK yet, I believe they have a 200 mile limit or something but in Europe they will pick the car up and send it back to England.

I have ADAC European Plus cover for €78,50 per year.
Been recovered twice from Germany back to the UK and last year from France back to the UK.
Had to call them for a UK home start problem and the AA turned up and sorted me free of charge.
I think that they are excellent.

I dont really need/want a full years cover as I'll only be going for a few days and its a bit of a waste paying for a full year (and more expensive). Anywhere do a "short trip" thing? I looked on the AA's website but it was quite expensive for just 3 days, over £75!

You don't need it but IIRC it's 'illegal' to break down on an Autobahn. not sure they'd actually press the issue with a Brit but you never know...

I don't think it's illegal to break down on the Autobahn, as no-one plans a breakdown, but it is illegal to run out of fuel.

Done a couple of trips to Germany, you don't need recovery, just the usual 'driving on the continent' items like warning triangle/hi-viz/vehicle and insurance documents etc.

Try RAC, my cover was around £45 for 4-5 days IIRC.

you don't NEED it legally, but it's worth having

if you break down/crash on the ring, you'll be recovered off the track by an ADAC agent anyway, and he'll charge you a few hundred quid

same applies for motorways, some road works there's automatic recovery, but again, they will charge if you aren't a member

I did AA week long cover for the old Porsche year before last (before I had ADAC) and it was about £50. Compared to ADAC with the current exchange rate it is very little more for year long cover?

Just before I went to europe for a week on the bike, I rang up RAC about european breakdown, and it was £58 for the week. They'd take the bike home and everything if it wasn't fixable but I was pondering that I doubt anything would actually happen so took the chance...

3 days later whilst on a german autobahn the thing caught fire and burnt to a skeleton losing everything (clothers, camping gear etc etc), I had to pay £300 for the bike to be recovered. Luckily I was with someone and I could go on the back, if not, I would of had to pay £250 for a flight home aswell.

Definitely get it, it may seem like a bit of money for an IF chance, but these things do happen.

Alot of insurance now has breakdown cover, phone the company and see how much to add european cover aswell, as it could well be the cheapest way.
