Hey All,

I have a motor advertised in the classifieds, shoudl I be cautious with response?! Received suspiciously from "John Smith" or am I just being Paranoid?!

Thanks for the swift response and do as well advise on the least
amount you will like to give it away as i am buying this for Dad and
due to the nature of my job and location...i will not be able to come
for inspection,am a very busy type as i work long hours everyday,i
have gone through your advertisement and i am satisfied with it.As for
the payment..i can only pay via the fastest and secure way to pay
online(PayPal).I have a private courier agent that will come for the
inspection and also for pick up after the payment have been made ...

You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right away and
also include your address in your reply. If you don't have a paypal
account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com and sign
up its very easy... i would have loved to talk to you on phone but i
work mainly offshore, our phone is down on the rig right now due to
bad weather, that was why but for now we can only communicate through
the same mailing channel.await your reply asap

Seems legit to me.

The chap has told you why he can't speak to you on the phone, so what's the problem?

Just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not trying to steal all your money.

Almost every sentence contains a common scamming cliche.
Obviously a standard reply template.

Just ignore and delete.

Guys,

Cheers for the input. In fairness I work in Oil & Gas and there's not one person onshore or offshore that would say this:

"our phone is down on the rig right now due to
bad weather, that was why but for now we can only communicate through
the same mailing channel.await your reply asap"

Kind of answered my own question I suppose but at least others are aware this may be happening. The boy's email is: johnme4323@gmail.com

Pays, receives and then recalls transaction.
Didn't know you could do that.

I've said I'll only accept the payment in unmarked £50 notes...should do the trick :P

I've had numerous similar responses when i advertised my car a few months ago, After a while if a reponse had bad grammar and/or spelling mistakes or mentioned the word 'Paypal' it was swiftly ignored and deleted.

Copy some lines of his email (any you choose), paste it into Google and see how many cars 'Johnny' has been buying for his dad recently..

I haven't had that many queries for my car in classifieds, not even scams. I am so lonely frown

Did you really have to ask?

Yes a scam they pay by paypal, collect the car and then get paypal to reverse the transaction leaving you with no money and no car.

Reply and have a bit of fun if you want. Some guy replied saying he was banned from Paypal by the Libiyan government or something. The replies were quite amusing so make sure to post them if you do.

Does nobody ever read the existing threads on this scam? There must be two per week at least...

A total scam. Had several like this over the years. I don't know anyone who has accepted payment for a car va PayPal. You would have to be a proper mug but I am sure someone will prove me wrong smile
