So my car's been sitting for 3 months and I'm now getting it back on the road. I opened it up to find that the rear passenger side footwell and surrounding area was covered in mould, ingrained deeply in to the carpet and going up the seatbelt and back seat.

Undoubtedly it's from last winter when I left a glass bottle of irn-bru in the car during the big freeze. The drink froze, shattered the bottle, melted then froze again leaving me to discover an icy orange lake in the footwell. I scrubbed and cleaned it at the time but clearly didn't do as good a job as I thought.

A quick search of PH turns up dettol mould and mildew or milton as the weapons of choice against mould, however I wondered if anyone's got any more tips for getting it properly clean this time?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If carpets etc get wet for a period of time they go mouldy.

The trick is to keep them dry.

"killing" mould is fairly pointless unless the car is going to be kept in a sterile environment.

A damp cloth with fairy liquid will usually remove mould.

If its then kept dry it won't return.
