Detroit show: Chevrolet Tru 140 S

Chevrolet's sleek Tru 140 S concept part of two-pronged coupe attack on younger buyers

While fans of rear-wheel-drive sportiness might lean towards the new Code 130 R concept at the Detroit show, those less fussed about rear-drive coupes might find this, the Tru 140 S concept, more appealing.

Beneath the sleek white bodywork are the same undergarments as you'd find in the humdrum Chevrolet Cruze hatchback, while the engine is the same 140hp 1.4-litre turbo four that powers the code 130 R (albeit this time driving the front wheels).

The idea behind offering such two different concepts, says Chevrolet, is to "inspire ideas and create discussion" and put "Next-Gen Buyers in Charge".

We rather like that idea, but hope that buyers are 'inspired' to go for the rear-drive version (though given the fact that the Tru runs on a platform that already exists we have a sneaky feeling that any production coupe might be front- rather than rear-wheel drive. These are straitened economic times, after all...).

This is a nice looking thing.

Much nicer and less upright looking than the other concept.

Bet they won't come here.

Better looking than the RWD one.

Small coupes are still quite popular in the States, so maybe they are hoping to take a cut of Scion sales

Oh dear, you lot really need to get back to te asylum! (only joking, no offence meant).
Its......acceptable but not really pushing the boundaries or offering anything that an Audi TT or Peugeot doesnt already do, except if it undercuts them on price by a considerable margin.......

The "glasshouse" really reminds me of the most recent Eclipse as well. Not sure if that's a good thing...

Though I do think this looks more modern and appealing than the 130R Concept, I'd rather have the latter reach production, as more lightweight, affordable F/R coupes is a good thing.

Not a bad looking car but it looks like an Astra GTC and a new Camaro that have been crammed into one design.
