Some background.

Ever since nipperhood I have been into cars. I would buy the mags, and read the specs. I'd be able to tell the difference between models from the exterior trim...

Passed my test and got on to driving the things. First few cars were crap, but RWD. Plenty of cars later I have always done a decent amount of driving and ended up with big diesel engines.

Now though, my desires have changed or simply ebbed.

Current steed is a car that in previous form I would have despised, a 520D SE BMW. It's got some pace, albeit driving fast is irritating as the gears are too bloody close together, and the lag is there.

My new criteria for a car seems to be big enough for the family, comfortable, quiet, good stereo (not a BMW strong point), and cruise together with some economy.

I seem to have lost performance and driving enjoyment along the way.

Cheers for listening - going back for quiet contemplation.

Complaining of lag, eh? I'd hazard that you still have that bit of a speed seeking urge, or you'd not care about that at all.

As for a decent stereo, you might just want hearing aids instead tongue out

I'm in the same boat. Car mad all my life, yet I find myself driving a Mondeo as a company car because it's big and comfy, and a 520d seems to be the most sensible replacement for it.

Go get yourself a weekned toy... Buying a 996 a few years back for weekends and when I only need to pop in to the office made me feel much better biggrin

It's maturity not age perse...

I find I enjoy the finer things in life now I'm getting on a bit which means now I have a little disposable income I tend to spend it on what I want and not what's de-riguer or considered the best. What I mean is that I know what I like and it's not dictated by anyone else, (peer groups/insurance/MPG etc), because I know what 'I' want better.

I own a fairly diverse cross section of cars now.

2x Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero,
1x VW Sharan
1x Nissan 300ZX TT
2x Opel Monzas, (but they're projects.)

They're not particularly valuable and none of them are new but they're what I want and I do love turning up to work in a different car depending on weather, necessity, mood or whim.

You can pick and choose now to a lesser or greater degree, enjoy it!! wink
