What is PM?

Apologies for ignorant question but what does "PM" stand for (I've seen a reference to it a few times). I assume it is some sort of chat function or messaging but don't see it an a profile option.

"Private Message" - although PistonHeads doesn't really have that function like many other forums do, but instead simply sends an e-mail direct to the user's e-mail address, without revealing it to the sender.

When you open a profile there is an option to email the poster via the email address you signed up with (Your email address can't be seen unless you reply).
You can turn the option on or off in profile settings.
