....yes, it's a what car!
Due to the imminent death of my girlfriends Clio, we now need to do some swift car shopping.
Car needs to be:
Not much more than £3k
Small (sub-focus)
Economical (over 40mpg real world)
Reliable
As low tax band as possible
Not utterly miserable
Not silver (girlfriend has a pathological hatred of silver cars)
Not ancient
Her old man thinks she should go with a Jazz. She's taken with a Micra (last shape). We're going to see a few cars on Friday, including a couple of Jazz's/Micra's, a Polo and a Civic.
Personally, of that lot, I'm leaning towards the Civic. Has the good Honda stuff (reliable, decent interior quality, reasonable to drive) without being quite as blue-rinsey as the Jazz.
Can the hive mind of Pistonheads offer any nuggets of wisdom?

Yaris, fiat panda and vw lupo were the first few which came to mind. And im sure mpg and tax across most of the engine sizes should be within criteria?
Lupos will be surprisingly leggy for the money, the residuals are strong. Panda's a good shout, but I think I'd prefer the Fiesta.http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2011...
Girly Micra but with a bit of zip and less dull than your average 1.2

Rover 213S
Not ancient, retro 80's cool(ish).
Not miserable at all, a spritely engine with suprisingly good handling.
40+mpg easilly. I've managed over 50mpg on a run.
Not silver mine's burgundy.
1342cc so lower tax, classic insurance would more than make up the rest.
Honda engine so reliable compared to the 216 S-Series Rover lump.
Smaller than a Focus Saloon, about the same size as a five door hatch only with a proper boot.
Much less than £3,000

Fiesta. It's reliable, fun to drive, cheap to buy and cheap to fix.
Seconded! I've had my 53-plate Fiesta for 4 years and it has just had a major service at a Ford dealer and cost me the princely sum of £237, which, aside from tyres, is the biggest bill it's ever given me. If you want cheap, reliable and not utterly miserable then the Fiesta is a pretty good bet.D1bram said:
