Treated myself to a an upgrade to the the old P38 and got a nice FF Rangie, great price and very happy. Here though is what I don't get. While n the dealers noticed a couple of RR sports and wandered over for a look. They where both the same age as mine and simlair mileage, when new the FF cost around 80k, the sport about 40k. Yet here they sat with much larger price tickets on the window than mine.

To me this is just nuts, the sport is half the car of the FF Rangie, the spec list and comfort levels do not come close, the handling both on and off raod is streets ahead of the sport, why then are these things shifting for greater second hand prices that thier far superior big brothers. Is it the football factor, posers are us. Running costs and insurance are not greatly diffrent.

I just don't get it. Couple of linked examples below

No idea. I much prefer the FF rangie. I do like the sport but the image is horrendous.

I've queried this also, I guess that there is just a greater demand from the target market of the RRS when second hand, than the target market for the FFRR.

Although it doesn't make sense, I believe it's because the sport actually looks like a better car from the outside and definately not half the value, the FF thus being much better value for the second hand buyer.
I'd love a FF as my next daily but I'm sure the wife wouldn't let me spend that much!!

Image mostly.. RR Sports are popular with 'trendy' folk and quite a wide age demographic.

FF has a narrower appeal on the second hand market. The FF is clearly the better car but when did that ever influence prices? Supply and demand.. Every time.

Who ever knew that they make them in colours other than black and white?

Im looking for a new tow car and I'm undecided.

The plus for the Range Rover sport for me is the size, day to day I really only need a 2 seater. But I hate the image they have, and I don't trust the people I see driving them.

Its a shame they don't make a small FF Range Rover. silly I really need to go out and drive both.

Or I could always go and get an X6 and be hated by everyone.

That was the cheapest i could find for that age and mileage. Dont worry though, you will save the difference in the first year on repair bills, no doubt.
Ow, and depreciation, it simply wont depreciate.

The FFRR is HUGE. The Sport is materially smaller but retains a lot of the badge and comfort appeal. Hence, in London where parking and appearance are principal concerns, the Sport is the more ubiquitous and in higher demand - keeping prices up.

But the FF oozes class and quality far more than the Sport. And the example posted by the OP looks excellent VFM, relatively speaking.

If the Euromillions go my way this evening, I'm straight off to LR to buy a brand new dark green FFRR TDV8 as the everyday all purpose hack.

That depends upon whether your only experience of either is from the internet.

A Range Rover is far, far more capable and desirable.

Agreed, its twice the car, as for repair bills there are very few problems now with the L322, particulary since 2005 it is a very sorted car, couple of odd niggles but nothing major.

I can see where the OP is coming from, but personally i prefer the Sports over the 'FF' or 'proper' version. I'm fully aware of the footballer/tannedhousewife/borderlinechav image and the Discovery DNA, but that doesn't put me off them.

Worth pointing out though i wouldn't have a black one. I regularly see a light grey metallic one (stornoway grey?) with smallish wheels and non-tinted rear glass and i think it can look as regal as the normal RR.

The price similarity must be down to the fact the Sport is so popular 'at the moment' and its smaller size, as mentioned above.
