RX8

For - high revving, great handling, RWD.
Against - low torque, poor engine note and rotary rebuilds.

or

GTV

For - V6 rasp, Italian styling.
Against - FWD, Cambelts, Italian electrics, door seals.

Which one of these 2 cars is worth your £5k?

GTV all day long, RX8's are good to drive fast and thrash, but for everyday driving I'd imagine they're horrible. st MPG for the power output and seemingly no low down torque what so ever......

For 5K you could get a mint GTV with Change to spare...

Recommended GTV specialist..

GTV every day of the week for me.

Unless the budget would stretch to a V8 conversion for the RX8 wink

I know this may not worry you, and it's very 'un-PH' but how long are you planning to keep the car for? I only ask as a £5k RX-8 will plummet in value and - despite being Italian and big engined - the GTV could (argubly) increase in value!

Having said all that i would still go for the GTV, although the handling alone of the RX-8 could sway it?!

Having owned a GTV, I'd say RX8.

You only had a twin spark though, not enough grin factor to overcome the niggles yes

It has to be the GTV V6. The RX8 falls down for being unreliable and potentially ruinous when the engine goes bang.

Neither is particularly fast and both will consume huge amounts of fuel. Really, the RX8's unreliability here is what makes the GTV the obvious choice for me.

GTV owner.

Go for the RX8.

Actually no, think of something else.

Both underpowered for the fuel they use, both will inevitably go bang expensively at some point.

As far as value accumulation goes, the GTV V6 MAYBE, if kept absolutely immaculate and you can keep that milage down

RX8 by some margin for me.

The GTV has a truly glorious engine, but that's about it. The RX8 runs rings around it in every other way, IMO.

I'd do the Alfa as I prefer the engine and the looks. I couldn't do either as a daily though, gas guzzlas!

Owned both.

RX8 is more practical, lovely handling balance and very comfortable

GTV has a feel to it that is "special" - can't explain what it is but I always look back after parking up the GTV, never did that with the RX8

I wouldnt do either really but if it had to be one it would be the RX-8 - it's got it's niggles sure but at least it's not hideous.

Depending on what you are using it for I wouldn't rule out the 2.0 Gtv. Sounds good for a 4 pot (never going to sound as good as the V6), but the handling is much sweeter.
