Have I Lost My No Claims Discount?
Discussion
Hello - I hope someone out there can help me with this one.
I have (or had) 6 years of no claims discount on my old car's insurance.
I traded this car in at Dagenham Motors for a used Ford Focus. Included with the Focus was 7 days' complementary insurance. I planned to transfer the remainder of my old car insurance onto the Focus within the 7 days. Unfortunately - shock, horror! - the Focus was stolen after only 2 days and never recovered. The insurance company who manage the complementary Ford insurance (RSA) were very helpful and prompt. They paid out very quickly and efficiently.
I am now in the process of buying (and insuring) a new car. However, have I now lost the 6 years no claims that I had on my old car?
Help/advice/experts to ask would be greatly appreciated!

Probably, because you have had a claim! Your NCD is based on whether you have had a claim at all, not whether you have had one on a particular policy, or so I believe. I suppose you could keep quiet and hope for the best but I think claims are logged on a database somewhere and if it came to light you'd be uninsured.

Hmmm... I'd be inclined to disagree with you... By my understanding you build your NCB on the policy and by the situation I'd be tempted to say that his policy and NCB has not been affected by this. He may be asked by the insurer if he's had any claims, in which case he would have to say yes and probably give the nature of the claim, but he would still have his 6 years NCB.Edited by rovermorris999 on Thursday 12th January 16:20
Often people who have 2 cars would take out 2 policies and accumulate two sets of NCB.
