After having a lot of problems with a Freelander TD4 engine i said i would never buy a modern diesel again. I have been looking at a 2011 A6 avant with the 2.0tdi (170ps) and it was a really nice car to drive.

Should i still be worried about modern diesels ( i have ran a VW T5 with the 1.9pd without issues for 4 years

Thanks

Stephen

The new common rail Audi's are surprisingly pretty reliable. Have the odd spat with the odd sensor but nothing that's going to cost hundreds of pounds. It'll be under warranty for a while yet anyway.

PD engines are bullet proof. I specifically said I wanted a 1.9 PD when sourcing my current car specifically for its reliability.

The common rail 170? Err.... Not so reliable. They seem a bit delicate....

The VAG speciailist we take our Mots too says you either get a good 2.0tdi or a crap one.

Various bits fall down on them, oil pumps being quite frequent it seems.

Apparently VAG introduced a gear rather than chain driven upgrade but I wouldn't know if a 2011 car would have the latter.
