Selling a car whilst plate transfer in process?

This one has caught me off gaurd slightly. I've sent off all my paperwork to transfer the private plate ( being put on retention) and have the cars original plate reinstated so on that basis, I don't have the MOT or the V5 to hand. I advertised the car today, basically to gauge interest and to my surprise already have a chap who wishes to view the car tomorrow. I've made it clear in the advert and also verbally to the chap that the plate transfer is in process and thus, I have no V5 or MOT.

If he wishes to buy the car, obviously I'm unwilling get allow him to take it without the paperwork as it'll still be in my name etc, so I assume the best/only option would be to take a deposit and keep the car until the paperwork comes back and then complete the sale once everything is in order?

Perhaps a slightly obvious question, but just keeping myself right here.

That is what I would do. There are other ways, but this way protects buyer and seller and makes for a [clean transaction'.
