What an absolute waste if true. Surely it'd be better to allow them to be used instead of needlessly wasted
The rules of receivership/business are very strange.

Only joking, the whole thing is a shame but as a society destroying functioning cars sucks, the resources used to produce these just goes to waste, someone, charities or whatever could use them, senseless to destroy them, just get a waiver of responsibility drawn up and given them away.

Its the only option. You cant waiver the responsability either. At what stage was the car at when the factory shut down for the nth time? How do you know the windscreen has really bonded?
That the rear suspension crossmember has been tightened to the correct tolerence?
what about the seatbelt anchors? The fuel lines? the brakes? The list is endless. They would need to be rebuilt..
You might risk it, and although mechanical failure is responsable for a very small % of road sccidents, that % could in crease hugefold with one of these cars. And can you really waiver the responsability if your car shed a rear corner and ran me over and killed me? How is that right for me?
They- and you- cannot take the risk. Hence they will be scrapped. As with all prototype and development cars.
Even these were scrapped after production stopped:

When is best to start looking to get a good deal?
I want a 9-3 Aero Estate, either the diesel or the 2.8 petrol.
Start looking now or give it a while? Prices seem to be dropping a little, but not by huge amounts....

If it breaks you will struggle to find spares.
They have been great cars, but wouldn't touch one with a barge pole now.
The company that makes & supplies the parts is different from the main company and hasn't gone into bankruptcy. There are also lots of specialist suppliers (breakers and after market parts etc.) I agree the new 9-5 might be tricky for some parts in a few years, but the older models (pre 08 ?) should be easy enough to get parts for.

The Saab parts company Saab AB is still running as is/was.. see this link.. http://www.cambridgesaab.co.uk/default.asp?docId=4...If it breaks you will struggle to find spares.

No worries as the parts are all GM and not that many are Saab specific (specially the oily bits) Specialist parts will still be supplied or available from breakers.
