Mazda 2 sport just out of warranty (3 years 2 months done 5000 miles)
Suddenly develops vibration from interior heating fan (as fan speed setting is increased the steering wheel and dash vibrates like a bad case of front wheel wobble although car is stationary)
After going on various Mazda websites it seems that there is a known issue with leaves entering the heating vents and Mazda have supplied a protective cover to prevent this happening on later models (with a service bulletin to dealers to retrofit to older models if they have this issue)
OH took the car into Mazda dealer today for investigation and it seems there was a family of mice living quite happily close to the heater fan.
Total killed unknown but the guy doing it said he has found lots of body parts spread around in the ventilation system.
The total cost to remove, clean, replace heater fan, refit all is going to be at least £500.
It seems that there is no obvious signs of forced entry by the mice ( locks not forced,no windows broken, chewed grommets etc)
If leaves can get in one assumes mice can? and if so who should pay the repair cost? The car had its 3 year service by the Mazda dealership just before the warranty expired and this modification was never mentioned or offered.

a) Mazda, even though out of warranty vehicle not fit for purpose (and leaves entering the vents is a problem Mazda is aware of)
b) Claim on insurance (in theory we have protected no claims)
c) We pay and accept its just one of those things (we pay to fit vent covers and hope it never happens again)

You could ask the dealer to see if there is any chance of getting some goodwill from Mazda UK.
If it is caused by a known fault, and you have full Mazda service history i'd say you have reasonable chance. If you get a no then its one of those things.

She needs to drive it more, I mean 5k miles in 3 years, what a waste of a warranty. No wonder the mice have moved in.

Update on this, final bill £625
Strip dash clean out leaves and mice remains.
Replace fan motor
Fit vent covers to prevent anymore leaves entering.
Refit dash etc.
Mazda goodwill contribution £300.
Cost to us £325
No obvious sign of how the mouse/mice got in,but Mazda wont admit any responsibility (goodwill payment due to being only just out of warranty, 2months and 200 miles since warranty ended)
