Mazda MX-5 Find me one!!
Discussion
Finally managed to sell my Saab!
, first i was thinking about going for a barge, then a newish diesel, now i've decided to stick with the old faithfull Nissan Primera GT (untill i find a half decent GT LE) and replace the Saab with an MX-5.
Couldnt think of a better place to ask for help in finding one. I have around £1100 to spend. (closer to 1k the better) has to be spanish (manual) and be located within resonable distance from Slough, which is berkshire for anyone who did not know.
Not fussed about colour ect.
I look foward to reviewing the links.
Thanks in advance!

That sounds too good to be true, and with no mention of mileage it probably is.I would also never trust a small independent car dealer in the suburbs of birmingham!
Here are a couple..

Edit: I didn't see that it needed to be close to Slough, sorry!

Seconded that. Have a read through the guide it covers everything. Rust is the killer, check sills and arches and buy on condition - imports aren't much different and in my buying experience I have found them to have better bodywork (and spec) as they haven't had quite as much salt and s
t from British roads but like I said I would get whatever is tidiest. Also if it still has a vinyl roof check for leaks as it could be in need of a replacement - the majority of replacements are mohair now so bear that in mind as vinyls tend to shrink over the years and leak causing the rubber door seals fill with water and then it drips all over your carpets and seats (had that on both mine).
Also check the boot for corrosion around the battery, it should be a sealed battery that won't piss acid all over the boot floor and dissolve it.
The MX5 forum on Pistonheads is very useful.
Very similar to my situation, sold a Saab and was after an MX5 but a 944 Cab came up locally and I couldnt resist, have avoided many wasted journies to look at MX5's as a lot are knackered or pricey, was wanting an MX5 with some mods, possibly forced induction but there are a lot out there that have been done badly, was thinking that 250 bhp to 115 might be a bit of a drop.
Watch out for the 1.6's if looking at mk1's, some are only 90 bhp and though it wont be a bad car, they dont really have enough power to keep things interesting.
The rust can be bad but it can be sorted, a guy on Nutz called the theMX5restorer has a thread going with some epic looking reconstruction but best to look for one that is ok, more recent imports tend to be better, the less British winters the better, the Japanese dont salt the roads, but it isnt a hard and fast rule. Dont worry about mileage or service history, it is just down to condition.
Think the 944 will do me for now, open top, widely regarded handling and a decent slug of power, might not be as light and focused as an MX5 but it seems a decent drive and it has nearly another 100 bhp.

Thanks for that, the car will be swapped with my Primera GT depending on where im going and with who, so needs to be solid and ready to drive away when i buy it.
