Was going to drive to S France in my classic mini but decided to get a mk2 mx-5 instead. Thing eurorail then to Bruges / Antwerp then Reims, Millau bridge, s France. Then back to Paris. Any recommendations on

A. The mx-5
B. The route?

Cheers

Keep the mini, or at least swap it for a classic 'vert (Spitfire, TR, Stag, MG, Healey, whatever). As far as route goes, just take a satnav and tell it to avoid motorways.

France is all good, as long as you're not in a rush you'll see loads more of it that way. Plus you'll be able to improve your French talking to garage owners and mechanics smile

Have fun!

I own an NB, but Id say buy an NA now whilst theyre cheap and keep the Mini if you possibly can.

I am going to sell her micra instead! And keep the mini. The mini would have attracted some great attention going down but I think the mx-5 is a better alrounder for this trip.

It's mad how much ppl are asking for them though. Ridiculous money!

MX-5 Mk1 1,600cc = NA6
MX-5 Mk1 1,800cc = NA8
MX-5 Mk2 1,600cc = NB6
MX-5 Mk2 1,800cc = NB8

An NA is a mark one MX-5 and an NB is a mark two, simply.

Go for it, my wife & I did this for our honeymoon in a mk1 1.8, three weeks of great weather & great roads!
The old grand prix circuit at Reims is well worth a visit. A zoom round the circuit at Monaco is a must too!

Third battle of Ypres = Passchendaele, to give its better known / more notorious name.

Yes I plan on visiting the WW1 sites. Does anyone know good places to stop around the halfway point from north to south France? Just towns / cities rather than specific sites.

Looking at mk1's now or NA6's

If you prefer the Mk1 then Id look at the 1,800cc too. Theyre stiffer and have better brakes and are probably going to be a bit easier to sell too.

Insurance is ludicrous for 1.6 so 1.8 is not getting a look in!

Depends where you go. Price comparison sites all indicated about £800FC for my NB, but I got that down to a shade over £300 with REIS quite quickly.

You need to speak to a broker who specialises in the cars. Mine would have been a good deal cheaper again, had it been another year or two older, as NBs arent really classic cars. NAs are though, so keep looking.
