Save Stanhope ford!
Discussion
Due to the stupidity of some the ford at stanhope has been closed for a while.
The council now want to close it permanently.
I rarely use fords and have never used the one a Stanhope. However as I always object to H&S nonsense created to save the stupid amongst us then I object to this, as well as losing anything that makes England a little less interesting.
There is a facebook campaign and for more info just use google.

It's always closed anyway when I try to use it..... The council now want to close it permanently.

Ok maybe not an well written post.
I should have said that it is in weardale, county Durham.
This type of council reaction really annoys me. A few people take a far bigger risk than they should and that takes away the feature fore everyone.
The alternative route is half a mile at most. Whether or not the fb campaign makes a difference I'm don't know. I
have just highlighted another piece of heritage that may go due to the incompetence of the minority.
What next make single track roads one way?

Don't a lot of new cars have the air intake right at the bottom of the bumper, to reduce drive-by noise?
My alfa 156 certainly does.(but it does nothing for the engine or exhaust "noise"!)However drivers should know what sort of "puddle" their car can cope with. I try to stay clear as a slighly lowered dolomite sprint used to have a low slung starter solenoid which didn't like water.
It sickens me how common sense now seems to be an ever decreasing commodity, and rules are being made which allow the continued decline.

It's closed because SatNavs try to take drivers across it as a shorter route to the Southern part of Weardale. Unfortunately the stupidity of the general public means that they cannot recognise when it is unsafe to traverse the ford and several fairly serious mishaps have occurred needing the assistance of the local Fire and Rescue service and Police.
FFS it does not require a degree in fluid dynamics to realise that three feet of very fast-flowing water is going to overcome anything except a 38-tonne artic. And yes - even they have tried to get across and caused major problems.
We are surrounded be eejits, I sometimes think.

Some cracking memories of very silly fun going through there, dragged a couple of stuck cars out with my Disco too. It still feels like a proper event going through one. Beats that bloody lethal humpback bridge alternative though.
Can't believe they're planning on closing it, it can't be that hard to stop idiots sending their cars down the river really.

it made huge waves.
Never come across one as awesome as that, though! That's a beast.
