Hi all,

I'm looking for a new car after selling my RenaultSport Clio.

I was initially looking at spending £4k but I've got a cheap Hyundai Coupe to run around in and theoretically could keep it longer and save more money.

But going with a £4k budget I'm struggling.

Cars on the list at the moment...

- Audi S3
- BMW 330ci
- Honda Civic Type R
- Seat Leon Cupra R
- Seat Ibiza Cupra

It needs to be faster than the Clio but more refined.

But they all seem over 80k miles... That's fine, some of those are a lot of car for sub £4k!

Tonight I had a quick look at RX8's... I've not driven one but heard all sorts of horror stories! Would you touch one? I ask as you can get a 54 plate 231 with 60k miles for under £4k! There's one on here which has had a comp test etc.

Are there any cars I've missed / overlooked?

Would you have have one of the cars above with 100k miles?

S2000s are just touching £4k and should be plenty cheaper to run than an RX8. Depends if you can live with 2 seats, and cutting peoples hair for a living...

Might get into a DC2 for that money. ~

I'd have any of those cars with over 100k in decent condition with the history to show it's been looked after. Possible exception of the S3 and it's 4WD system, but that's just me.

Luke.

I previously looked at both the MCS and S2000 when I was thinking about a bigger budget (that was before my Clio munched its gearbox as I was thinking I'd keep it till summer so I had more time to save)... I just think it will be a shonky one for £4k and the MCS is too much like my Clio.

DC2 would be too old... I'll get flamed for this (and yes, I've driven one on a fair few occasions!) but it's also too similar to the coupe I'm currently driving! Crap, rattly, plastic tastic interior.

Also, I'd want the facelift of both, which are out of my budget.

Where as I can get a lovely facelifted S3 for under £4k with under 100k miles.

I know the RX8's are juicy but if I found a good one (I'll obviously do a lot of research) they seem like a lot of car for the money.
