Fascinating thanks.
You can see why they cost so much in comparison to steel discs, what an intensive manufacturing process!

IIRC, Bentley charge £10,000+ for Ceramic jobbies for their Continental models *shock*

When I am pushing the credit card into the slot to replace my discs, I will now feel that little bit better. Only a little bit biggrin

Does anyone know if this is the same process used for the Porsche pccb brakes?

I would have thought the process is nigh on the same, probably just differing amounts of silicon/carbon etc.

Thanks OP that was rather interesting!

I wonder just what scale they can acheive during manufacture, will they ever be cheap enough to retrofit onto existing cars?

I hope they take the route of F1 style paddle gearboxes; which in 1998 they were £8000 on the F355 IIRC and now they are some £2000 as an option on VAG cars in DSG format.

As they become more mainstream, costs must surely come down.

But you must remember there are draw backs to ceramic brakes, they are very fragile to scratches, impacts from metal objects (ie clumsy tyre changes) and worn out brake pads, all which will result in catastrophic disc failure.
I know that if my discs fail I will be replacing them with steel items, I don't think the advantages outweigh the cons some how.
But either way a very interesting clip, thank you.

Strange to watch that with the 'merican accent.
They had the same episode on Discovery with Tony Hirst (?) doing the voiceover; like watching a completely different program.

Tony Hirst has that 'straight to the point' voice. American accents can be off putting sometimes, I know what you mean.
