I'm looking at getting a tow vechicle for my race car and noticed Ford Explorers are very cheap. My dad had a couple of them a few years ago and they are very tough - perfect tow vehicle! shame they only get 20mpg...

Anyway, I plan to *only* use it to tow my racecar (about 10-15 weekends through a year).

Insurance quotes from the comparision websites fora standard policy are a bit silly (circa £700) so I'm wondering if there are other products which suit my needs better?

I'll email my competition car insurance provider on monday as I think they do 'support vechicle' policies... but wondering if there are any 'pay by the day' type policies which work for cars you own?

yep, i've done pay per day when picking up a new car and still owning the old etc. iirc it was about 10-15 quid a day so could work out cheaper if you really are using it for 20ish days a year.

eg: https://www.tempcover.com/TempCover/tcvInfo.aspx

That said, you may have problems taxing it with just a one day policy, not sure what the official line on this is

You can't have a taxed, uninsured vehicle. Try getting a limited mileage policy, or a Land Rover they usually have cheap insurance from a specialist.
