Marques that are changing with the times

Are there any brands that are beginning to lose their traditional image of either being luxurious, sporty, or any other niche that they used to market themselves on? It could be for a variety of reasons such as the clientele buying them or a change in model variants/specifications or a change in design.
For me I don't see BMW as what it once was, and with the replacement of 6-cylinder to 4-cylinder turbo engines and possible move to FWD it looks like its downgrading its standing. I'm don't feel particularly proud to say I own a BMW at the moment as it just feels like saying I own a VW, good cars but nothing for people to be impressed about.
I think Mercedes and Jaguar are still maintaining their image, and Volvo are trying at least to improve their design/image as something more premium. I'm not sure about Lexus.
On the flip side, are there any brands which are moving up the 'prestige' ranks and could soon become the next direct competitior to the Germans?

Yes but what about the type of people who are buying their cars, and a change in design language etc. Porsche are doing their part to reduce emissions etc but they are still making some highly desirable vehicles.Sorry.

Ahh its the age old question. When does a marquee become a brand stand? Oddly, on "In the night garden" they called it a gazebo, yet I thought it was a brand stand.
But like anything else, you get waht you pay for. Cheap, nylon marquees dont have the quality of more, heavier material ones

Even Porsche seem to be drifting away from driver focus though - look at the reviews of the 991 compared to the 997.

He clearly refers to 'Merguez', the highly spiced sausage from France, and I think it is changing with the times - it's available from the deli counter in Leclerc now, whereas previously it was a fridged, pre-packed item.
