Can you extend car insurance early?

I'm only 2 months into my car insurance policy, but we've just booked a holiday to Florida which falls right on top of when my insurance expires.

Now I know I could just go online while in the USA and renew the insurance, but as budgets are going to be stretched while we are away on holiday and there's a chance I might run into all kind of problems getting payments accepted while I'm in a foreign country, I'd rather sort it all out way before we go.

Is this possible? Ideally I'd like to pay for the 2nd years insurance right now and be done with it, but I'm guessing insurance co's might not be up for this?

I might be missing something, but what's wrong with renewing it just before you go? I think quotes are usually only valid for a month, so not sure if you would be able to renew more than a month in advance.

Hmm I didn't realise you could renew that far in advance. I thought maybe a week tops, which would have been no good as it expires a few days before we come home which would be ~2 weeks.

But still, if I could get it done and sorted now at a price they quote now I'd be much more happy.
