Hello all! I have browsed this site a couple of times as it was recommended to me.

I have been lucky enough to be offered a2006 Audi A3 Sportback 2.0TFSi S-line Quattro for £5,000. Am I right in thinking this is pretty much the same as an Octavia VRs or Golf GTi with part time 4wd?

I understand that this looks to be a very good deal indeed. I was originally looking for a similar car such as a medium hatch or estate such as a Mazda 3 or Volvo V-50 diesel. I know that this is going to be a lot more expensive to run but then again I’m getting it for a good price.

What opinions does anyone have on this car as for running costs and such like? Would I be best to go for it and then maybe just trade it in 6 months if it is costing too much to run? Or just stick to looking for a cheaper diesel around the same price?

Oh and I am ready for the Audi haters that are not keen on the imagine wink

not sure if the 06 had haldex III or IV, the 11 cars are IV is defiantly permanent 4wd and reactive, just with a bias to FWD

hmm ver III was released 06 so it maybe ver II, in which case get the haldex mod wink

Go for it. It should be a brilliant car, what mileage do you do per year? The difference between a 30mpg petrol and a 50mpg diesel will be around £1000 every 15000 miles. Not a huge difference if you cover less than 15k per year.

I've got that exact same car (model/year/spec), only I paid £10k for it last June! So that sounds like a bit of a bargain to me.

Up to now it's been a pretty reliable and effortless car to own, if not a bit boring (I did come from a 350z though!).

My daily commute is 11 miles each way, half through town, half through country lanes and I get about 28mpg on average. On a motorway run it's about 34mpg, so not too bad.

Build quality is good and power is average but you will be able to overtake comfortably and the car doesn't scream it's tits off on the motorway. Oh, and the boot size is pants!

So, if you're after an average, comfortable, functional and fairly reliable daily hack, you will love it!

Hope this helps.

Cheers
P

No it belongs to a close family member who is not short of a few quid. I think they are doing it to help me out as the last few months have been a bit crap for me and I've helped them out in the past. The car has 50k on the clock, full service history and is in very good nick. Worst comes to worst it should be a pretty good Part ex.

They are looking at a new car so might come and ask on here on their behalf.

Bite their hand off then, it's got to be worth at least £7k as a trade-in.
