Like the title says - its a 2005 Volvo v50 diesel. Perfectly fine accelerating on level road but when I try to accelerate uphill its almost like the engine is cutting out then coming back to life rapidly.

Any ideas?

TIA

All I know is its a 2 litre diesel. It runs fine in every other condition.

Possibly the DMF or a Clutch issue then. The engine is shared with a number of Fords that have similar flaws.

Could be several things but IMHO the two comments pointing to the clutch are probably right. Failing uphill is classic sign of clutch trouble.

Otherwise engine management system but I favour clutch.

Well it turned out to be a fault with the fuel filter seal - all fixed!

I'm sorry, but I'm not having this... It can't possibly be a faulty filter seal, how dare you dispell the myth that diesels can also have simple, cheap to fix faults too

It's a diesel, so it has to be a DMF fault, which will cost you at least a grand, and probably also needs 4 injectors at at least another grand... oh and don't forget the EGR valve fault

I say this, as every thread I read on PH that even dares to mention diesels with a fault are always a combination of both of these - that's why no PHer would ever buy a car powered by the fuel of the devil

I'd live with it if it is to cost thousands. Read that a fuel injector being out could be cause.
