So I'm picking up a car Tuesday, all paid for etc. except I'm still waiting for the insurance to come through and theres no tax on it.. If the insurance doesn't come through before then does it mean I won't be able to get the tax or is there another way? (i.e. use a conformation letter or other?)
Thanks for help.

Post Office will now accept a fax cover note or an email.

Of the official document? (email recieved after buyin online said it would be posted in a few days which isn't quick enough) - should have mentioned this.. I guess I can call the insurers and get an email copy sent before then?

The insurance either needs to say "cover note" or "certifacte of motor insurance". They should be able to easily fax this to you or email it. Have you bought the car from a dealer? As if so they can normally offer a free 7 day insurance policy.

Equally a dealer usually sticks the weeks insurance on so they can stick the tax on it.

Yeah it's from a dealer, I've just been told that I need to forward him the insurance policy so he can get the tax? No mention of insurance from their side.

Isn't Tuesday the 31st? Maybe you'd be better arranging to pick it up on Wednesday and making sure the dealer taxes the car FROM 1st February (i.e. the tax disc expires 31/7/12 or 31/1/13) otherwise you'll be out of pocket to the tune of 30 days' "road tax".

Just a random thought smile .

Wow didn't think about that... Thanks! Although Tuesday is the only day I can pick it up in the next two weeks

You can tax a car 2 working days prior to month end and get the full month.

Only if car was previously taxed up until the end of the prior month, otherwise the tax has a start date as well as an end date.
