hmmm I don't know whether or not to sell my Triumph Stag for an XJ-S or XJ12, I fancied a V12 Jag for a long time... So...

This -

OR something like this -

I'm not up on stag prices at the moment but surely the stag is worth a few bob? You can pick up a half decent xjs at the moment for almost pocket money, is there no way you could make a bit of room & have both?

ETA.. Note to self, check peoples profiles before posting. smile

i'd be happy with either tbh, but there's definitely a certain something about v12 jags , so a nice xjs v12 would edge it for mesmile......oh to have that choice in the first place though!

Now this is a good idea!
OP maybe you should start a poll?

That Stag looks lovely, that Jag looks plain and ordinary frown However the Jag has that V12 and if you get chance to have a V12 at some point in your life it's probably good to grab the chance. As said above though : can't you have both? Would be a shame to let such a nice Stag go .. ?

OP, This thread reminded me of something I saw the other day, a Jaguar double six you may be interested in having a look at. If the ad is genuine & it only needs a couple of injectors I don't think you could go far wrong for the money. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/230732915809?ssPageName=...

The Stag looks like a classic car, something interesting. The Jag just looks like an old Jag. Not a classic, just old.

I'd keep the Stag, far more interesting.

I agree on keeping the Stag, it looks stunning but when that feeling of change creeps in it's hard to ignore.

I have had both (at the same time, for a while).

Yeah, difficult one. I must admit every now and again I consider selling the XJ or something and getting another XJ-S but haven't yet. They are very, very different cars. The XJ-S actually feels modern to drive, it's quiet and smooth and feels a lot more solid then a Stag. It's lots of fun, and the XJ-S handles far better then you would think. It does need some room but it's really nice to feel the weight of the car moving, and using the power to rocket out of the corners. The V12 engine is awesome too, not like any other car engine (except perhaps the XK) but sadly the 3 speed auto holds it back. However and XJ-S doesn't give the same thrill you get in a Stag; roof down, V8 engine roaring away. The stag feels more like a raw sports car after the smooth, soft XJ-S. I suppose if you are bored of the Stag then yes, sell it. If you have managed to find a way to cure yourself of Stag's may I ask how? I could save myself a lot of stress and money if I didn't have to have one...or does your Vitesse do the same for you?

It is worth noting that the earlier XJ-S cars are very different from the later, post 90ish XJS, and values reflect that.

Classic cars did a comparison between XJ-S, Stag and R107 Merc SL recently.

Can I suggest an alternative? Consider selling the 420 and getting a XJ? They drive very similarly to an XJ-S and you can have the V12 engine, although (as you know) the XK engine is lovely too.

Imagine this parked up next to the Stag...

Have you considered the XK8? You can get a nice one for under £5k.

+1 for the 'lovely Stag' comments.

p.s. not stalking.

Once the idea of a V12 Jag gets into your head it's difficult to ignore. Waking up in the morning and thinking to yourself "I own a V12, a V12 for god's sake" takes some beating. It's a car that wants to be driven - no journey is ever long enough, and the temptation to take the scenic route wins every time.

The deceptively snug interior of the XJS cossets you in leather and wood; at night the interior lighting has a welcoming glow reminiscent of an open hearth fire. The car whispers in your ear with suggestions of overnight drives to far flung destinations - why go straight home when we could be in Bordeaux by morning it purrs.

Around town it feels frustrated and never that happy. Too cumbersome for that - leave that for the city cars - but unleashed on an open road it accelerates as only a V12 Jag can; without fuss the horizon comes towards you rather than you accelerating towards it, accompanied by a deep growl from the twin exhausts to remind you that it's no slouch.

But all this at a cost: petrol. Even the HE can only dream of achieving on a run what the Stag will average. For twisty B road blasts the Stag would be better suited, but give it a flowing A road or a trans-continent haul and the V12 Jaguar is the only choice.

To have to choose one or the other - very difficult, but for me it'd be the XJS, but clearly that's a given seeing as how I already have one.

Definitely keep the stag. Much cooler, and I'm guessing - better to drive.
