Why no 7 seat plug-in Prius?

Up until recently I have objected to these cars, and the "conventional" hybrid still doesn't appeal. However, I can see the appeal of a plug in as the car will be mostly used for the school run, so in theory I could top it up daily on cheap overnight electricity and/or PV panels. Also, the Mrs is nagging me to get a 7 seater (not sure why as we only have 2 children). So a 7 seat plugin seemed appealing, but it would seems that it won't be available in this configuration. Any idea if that is an engineering issue, or a perceived lack of demand?

Correct, but not being offered as a plug-in which is what the OP is asking.

Going a bit off topic, but......

Toyota ran a 'Hybrid Challenge' for its dealers last Summer to encourage customers to try the Prius / Auris, and they supplied a Top Gear' style leaderboard. I set our route, 7.3 miles on mixed roads (not far from Goodwood circuit) and I got just over 72 mpg trying pretty hard!

One of my prospective customers, who had never driven a Hybrid had two cracks at it, and on his second attempt got 82.5mpg over the route, I still haven't got a clue how he did it!

The top speed of electric only mode is 52mph, if they have an indicated 52 it might only be 45 actual?
