RE: Shelby Super Cars changes to SSC North America
Monday 30th January 2012

Shelby Super Cars, the US sports car maker that keeps harrying Bugatti for the title of world's fastest production car, is changing its name: from now on it'll be called SSC North America.
Shelby Super Cars changes to SSC North America
There's only room for one Shelby in the world of fast cars - and that's Carroll

Jerod Shelby, owner of SSC, has come to a settlement with Carroll Shelby Licensing and its corporate parent Carroll Shelby International, to drop the use of the Shelby name.
This leaves the name Shelby in automotive terms solely to Carroll, regarded as the father of the Cobra and all-round US motorsport legend. Which is probably a good thing, as SSC founder Jerod Shelby is no relation to Carroll and the companies are in no way linked - and he has no doubt been getting fed up explaining this.
Shelby (Jerod) can now concentrated on getting the Jason Castriota-designed Tuatara (stop sniggering at the back, there) to market. Perhaps more importantly he can also focus on achieving the 275mph top speed target he's set for the 1,350hp twin-turbo 7.0-litre V8 hypercar, thus claiming back the title of world's fastest car from Bugatti.
Discussion
Any updates on WHEN this car is going to be ready and trying to hit 275mph? I'm semi-interested in this, I think the latest work done on the design is all good. But when is it all going to happen? I can then set my alarm and I don't need to worry about any further articles on this car until that point ; )
Of course, WHERE is another question of some interest here...

I wonder if it'll be as easy to drive as a Veyron, or as accelerative at usable speeds, or as comfortable... I don't really see the point of targeting what I see as one of the Veyron's less impressive achievements. It's not so impressive if they pip the Bugatti on top speed but fall far short in every other respect.

Being an American car it will be quick in a straight line but just have problems with the corners........
You either still live in the last century, or too young to understand cars. ZR1 is faster than any european super/hyper cars around the ring. Mustang Boss 302 is faster around the track than hte current M3. CTS-V is faster around track than E60 M5 and M6 (I own an E60 M5).

Unbelievable... When people (specially in this country) were told how fast is the 2011/2012 GTR both in straight line acceleration and around track, guess what most people replied?"Oh, no. I'm not interested in a car that big and heavy."
"I prefer a car to have rear wheel drive with no driving aids."
"GTR is too expensive to service, and the brakes are too expensive to replace."
I guess in some people's eyes if you are not European, you just simply can't do anything right.

ZR1 is slower than the GT2 RS on the ring! The CTS-V is slower than the F10 M5 and the Porsche Panamera Turbo! So your point is what? Also the 458 is faster on 9-6 tracks!

How much is GT2 RS? It's more than three as much as ZR1! Plus, there's a certainly Viper which is faster and cheaper than GT2 RS.
When was CTS-V introduced? The current CTS is in the generation as E60, NOT F10! And even at that time it was a lot cheaper, too.
Again, it's the 21st Century, now. American and Japanese cars can be and are as good as any European cars due to globalisation. Do you really think a American can't make cars do cornering as good as European cars? It's all about consumer demand. In the past there aren't enough market for any American car manufactures to develop cars 'corner'. But time has changed. And, do you know how many American work in European car industry?

I'd swap my 20 y.o. MX5 for a 2012 GTR, any day of the week.
