Need some help choosing my next car...
Discussion
I'm looking for the perfect car and I know it doesn't exist, but I need some help in drawing up a shortlist.
Currently I'm driving a Mk2.5 MX-5. It's British racing green, with a tan leather interior, wooden steering wheel and gearstick. It's modded with a K&N, twin exit exhaust, six speed tranny, uprated brakes and sticky 16" rubber. Short of a supercharger and being a bit bigger it's the perfect driver's car in every way. I *love* this car.
In short. I like cabriolets, RWD, good handling, nice noise, enough power (more would be nice), sporty looks and I don't care what anyone else thinks of what I drive. It's about the drive. This is a commuting car, so I also need reliability.
I was intending to get a Boxster S next.
We have an Audi A6/Allroad for the dog and heavy duty family lugging stuff, but unfortunately I'm going to be needing four seats again for occasionally ferrying of two teenagers. Thus, no boxster.
I've got £25k to spend (mortgage paid off and it's time for a treat). Economy not too important, low miles to work, but would prefer 30s on a run. 0-60 in sub 7 is a must. 2-4 years old is the sweetspot, I hate depreciation.
So far I've come up with...
Audi RS4/S4 Cabrio - Ticks all boxes on paper. I like the looks. Fuel economy looks dire... worried about handling and scuttle shake, bit old now?
Audi S5 Cabrio - Styling doesn't appeal, nowhere near as 'Audi' as the A4 for some reason, no manual gearbox for the V6T - what were they thinking?
BMW 330/5/M3 - Rather have a soft top than a hard top. Styling not really me, not a bangle fan. Otherwise ok.
Porsche 911 997 S2 - I'd sacrifice the cab for a 911 and four seats... but are those back seats actually usable for teenagers?
Erm that's it...
Other suggestions welcome - or feedback on the above.
Help!
Cheers,
Drew.
